Intel’s X48 is costly: $70 for one chipset
Intel will certainly pull out X48 chipset in the upcoming January. And we notice its price: $70 (wholesale trade price). And X38 is only $50. Of course X48 is a highest-end product for enthuaist so the final price of the whole mobo will more higher than X38′s.

Comparing to X38, X48 seems do not have much inprovement. They both support XMP, DDR3 1333,PCI Express 2.0 2×16, all using ICH9 as their southbridge. The ONLY difference is the X48 supports FSB 1600MHz. SO the X48 is only Upgrade version of X38, along with X38′s bugs.
There’s another thing that we have to say: Intel already removed the support for DDR3 1600 at X48. They let manufacturers to deside adding DDR3 1600 support or not. So the reference version of X48 only supports DDR3 1333.

No matter what, the day for X48 is closing. (X48 chipset already sent to mobo manufacturer in Nov.4, some bigshot like Gigabyte even got their sample before Oct,and leaked.)We will soon konw what is the real performance of X48.
