a detailed look at G92-8800GTS & G92-8800GT’s power module
We already have a simple test on different cards power’s power consumption. And today we will fix our eye on the G92-8800GT and G92-8800GTS’s power module’s difference.

This is the power module of G92-8800GTS 512MB.
It is easy to figure out G92-8800GTS is using 3 phase power module.

And reference G92-8800GT have only 2 phase.
Two cards all using Primarion’s PX3544 graphics processor digital multiphase controller. The PX3544 provides intelligent phase detection capability allowing the system to operate under the condition of up to 2 (of 3) missing 12V supplies. Autonomous phase control circuitry will drop phases due to current balance or 12V faults and add phases when the 12V supply returns.

so without adding a phase the two card have no actual difference at the power module.
