Good for u that u were lucky enough to get flawless cards. However, there was a batch of card distributed in Germany with some kind of hard-wired error inside turning the fan uncontrollable by any software- or bios means. This is not my personal suspicion but what a Leadtek technician told me in an email. He suggested that i better returned those cards to my retailer. I have gone for another option after all and attached the fans of my two cards to headers on my Asus Motherboard. Now I use temp sensors to control their speed via Asus’ Qfan.

I have two Leadtek’s 8800GT with the new fan, and it’s default at 29% and easily changeable with rivatuner, i actually use automatic fan control as it’s much better.
Go to Rivatuner’s registry, under RivaTuner\Fan, set AutoFanSpeedControl to 3, tick the value (the lamp will become yellow).
Restart rivatuner and now you can change the automatic fan control values in Fan Control. i use:
Duty min cycle – 29
Duty max cycle – 100
T min – 55
T range – 26 (use 20 if your case’s airflow is poor, fan will ramp up much faster, not recommended)
T operating – 70
T low limit – 0
T high limit – 80

click Save and tick Apply fan settings at windows startup and you’re done! core operating temp should be 70C and temperature should never go above 72-75C.
Can stress your card with ATITOOL using the Scan for artifacts feature and watch the fan speed in Everest, or in Rivatuner’s monitoring by clicking Setup and adding the plugin ADT7437.dll.

For shaab and lordchaos80: try flashing your card to a different leadtek 8800GT bios, maybe that will fix that.

I have the new Leadtek PX8800 GT GTB with the new fan. But there’s a big problem: the fan always run at 100%. I tried many programs (Rivatuner, Expertool, ntune…), no one can regulate the fan speed. I’m not the only one with this problem… At full speed the fan is very annoying ;(

we only find out XFX, EVGA, Leadtek and zotac have 8800GT w/ new cooler in the market.

I can’t say that the fudzilla report is true or false. What I can say is that I do have the new fan and it’s on a EVGA card and not a Leadtek card. http://www.evga.com/forums/fb.asp?m=182098

Thanks for the reply jeff. Yes, it makes sense Nvidia would deny the change in the meantime. I hope you’re right and that the new one is really going to replace the current reference cooler among all brands, this is very good news.

personnally i think NVIDIA denied that they change the cooler is because the new cooler issue certainly hurt the sales of the 8800GT’s first shipment.
not only leadtek, other company also have the exectly the same kind cooler, and that’s another proof for our speculation.

Seems you guys were mistaken. There’s no change to the reference design. The improved cooler is a Leadtek initiative and has nothing to do with other brands’ shipments.

“According to our sources Nvidia hasn’t changed the reference cooling and doesn’t even plan to do so. Our sources also claim that Expreview.com just managed to get their hands on Leadtek’s own 8800GT design which uses an improved cooler, similar to those we saw on XFX cards a while back.”
