Some of our readers sent emails to us, saying they are going for after-market cooling solution because they got a old stock cooler 8800GT and can not stand for the heat. Some even refused to buy reference version and choose product like Palit’s.

NVIDIA, don’t try to confuse customers. Thank you so much for changing the stock cooler, not making 8800GT to the first Graphic card that requires a strong after-market cooling solution. But your denying just misleading your customers and wasting their money.

Here is why we starting this project: At first we find out some 8800GT w/ new cooler in our local market. And we did a little research on it and find out the new cooler is nice. Don’t even imagine that the feedback is so much. Soon the topic spread to all around the world:

But after one day, NVIDIA denied that they ever changed the stock cooler:

“According to our sources Nvidia hasn’t changed the reference cooling and doesn’t even plan to do so. Our sources also claim that Expreview.com just managed to get their hands on Leadtek’s own 8800 GT design, which uses an improved cooler, similar to those we saw on XFX cards a while back.” From Fudzilla.

What we got:

We got more proofs of it. Inno3D,Leadtek, XFX, Zotac and eVGA are having the new cooler now. And more and more brand using the exactly the same cooler of them.

And SX-team in Yugoslavia seems even don’t want to choose referenced 8800GT, they using 8800GT with aftermarket cooler or no-reference 8800GT here.

Big Wayne @ OCUK did a nice work researching on the 8800GT’ temp. He even recorded the temp of the PCB.

2nd update:

Gary Yan’s new 8800GT, bought it a month ago in HK:

This is a Jen-Hsun Huang(NVIDIA CEO)’s signatured 8800GT. It is using a old version 8800GT, please notice the new version sticker. The sticker is designed for new stock cooler.This is because the print factory have received the new reversion cooler’s detailed specifications so they can print this. But there still have some stock cooler in stock, so in the market there is some product have “new sticker and old cooler” 8800GT. Not only Galaxy but many other brand have some 8800GT like this:
