HP-1204S-X have heatpipe tower design, like it is processors. This is commonly used in nowadays high end product. What’s more, it use anodization treatment on its fin’s surface, and that make the whole cooler pettier. Now let’s compare HP-1204S-X with HP-1204S.

γ€€γ€€Β·Thermal radiating surface

HP-1204S on the left and HP-1204S-X on the right.

The appearance of HP-1204S-X seems more stronger than HP-1204S: the size of HP-1204S is 126*50*150mm, and HP-1204S-X is 126*80*153mm. The additional area of the fan makes the wind tunnel inside the cooler more longer than HP-1204S. But it also make it more heavier than HP-1204S: HP-1204S-X is 718g, and HP-1204S is only 590g (all including fan).

The thermal radiating surface area of HP-1204S-X’s each fin is about 78cm^2. There is 50 fins totally,so the total area of HP-1204S-X is 7800cm^2, 10% more than HP-1204S, but still can not compare to Tuniq Tower 120’s 9000cm^2.

The averange space between each fin is about 2.2mm

HP-1204S-X is a bit higher(153mm vs 150mm), but the number of the fin is less than HP-1204S, only 50 (HP-1204S have 58 fins). All these space is added between fins. Adding space between fin can optimize air flow, of course it can not be too spaced. If the space is too tight, it will require high air pressure to push air through the fins. Adding space can lower the requirement of the fan, make it get the job done with a lower RPM and low noise level.

It is hard to equip two fan to HP-1204S-X. Because it only designed for one fan. though PCCOOLER adding space between fins, the 80mm wind tunnel still requires a high wind pressure. A single fan solution seems not enough.
