45nm wolfdale dismantled

In christmas eve, i received a special present from Santa Claus: an broken 45nm wolfdale dual core CPU.

Β

It is and broken engineering sample with no marks on it. Only the two white dot show it is a 45nm wolfdale.

After we reviewed Intel 45nm Wolfdale E8400, i am in love with these kind of little things. But it still needs to take several weeks to wait for the final release. Thanks Santa the geek, he gave me a broken one as a preasent and i decide to dismantle it.

We use a hairdryer and a screwdriver to dismount the metal plate.

Thanks to 45nm prossessing, the core is rather tiny, only 107mm^2.

here is some screen cap of the CPU(when it is still alive..)

can not use on our P5N32-E.

But in the bios it can recognize the cache.

It is a ES so its multiplier is not locked.

Please update BIOS to version 1302 and see if it works

    I’m sorry.
BIOS 1302 does not support Wolfdale
    I modded a Wolfdale ready BIOS :

Remember you are flashing this BIOS entirely at your own risk.
If you are not comfortable flashing it, do not update.
You must be able to recover from a “bad” flash.
