new year mid/high-end VGA card round-up!
Β
In these resent months the mid to high-end market have lots of VGA cards. G92, RV670 series cards like 8800GT/GTS 512MB and HD 3870/3850, G80 and R600 cardsοΌ8800GTX/Ultra, HD 2900XT. Actually 8800Ultra/GTX, 8800 GTS 320/640MB and HD 2900XT are becoming rare in the market, because they are now offically End Of Life.
So now the market is becoming the playground of G92/RV670. And that’s why we can not include a 2900XT in this test. These tests are mainly focus on G92/RV670.

First learn to use the most new and powerful drivers, then publish the review…
ForceWare 169.12 Beta modded?, Why??????, Why don’t only use the most recent ones?, like 169.28, those oldies 168.12 sucks on the new G92 core.
GTS 512 MB buyers fanboys? :S. First learn to review the hardware with the correct drivers!.
Bad review :S, I can see on the World in conflict benchmark page that there aren’t that game benchmarked, it’s the Lost Planet (it appears in two pages).
Anyway, I think that you should be compared the price/performance with the GTS 512 vs 8800 GTX and Ultra, the GTS 512 MB a lot of times performs better than GTX and Ultra, and the price have a great difference there.

a review takes a loooooong time, alot more then you can imagine..so when we finished, the new driver already out for days.
in our review no bench is only one loop
and thanks for the WIC mistake. fixing it now.

Hello Jeff,
i do not understand why some comments sound so aggressive
You are doing a really great job providing the internets with such good and fast information about the latest and greatest video cards. I cannot read chinese so i only use en.expreview.com.
Many thanks for this great site!

well i think because we still have lots to improve, for example, my grammar.
anyway flames are good for a small site like this.. haha

Nice job!
BUT
I don’t Understand why ppl forceing only Intel platform tests. I mean nVidia and Intel will always run better than ATI-Intel. Why don’t you retest all cards again on AMD platform? There must be some interesting results… (for example on a Spider platform)

Nice article ! awesome job done !

The spider is not ready yet. Phenoms performance is about 10% below Intel Core 2. And that is without the TLB patch applied. Then things get even worse. Also AMD cpus cannot overclock as musch as intels so the gap gets huge. I am an X-AMD fanboy. Since the coming of core2 i stand (almost) converted as Intel fanboy.
And if nvidia continues like this i may stand as a converted nvfanboy in a couple of months. No really now, i hate nvidia. I don’t know why. Maybe because they bought out my favorite company 3DFX many years ago.Thats the reason i support ATI among other things. I don’t agree with jeff though that the 3870 is for ati fanboys. It’s a bit unfair i think. Ok the 8800GT is better. Noone denies that. But the price is right. I don’t know the prices in china but here in Greece the 8800GT is 50euros more than the 3870.Both cards are really hard to find which means great sales for both companies.
Generally i love companies that give my money great value. I hated nvidia for asking 530euros for the GTX 14 months ago which i was forced to pay ofcourse thanks to ATIs incompetence at the time. But now i have nothing bad to say about the GT. Nor for the 3870. I preferred the 3870 though since it is absolutely playable at 1680*1050 without AA since this is the resolution i play.

HMMM seems like getting 8800GT with 1024MB is totally not worth it…i thought it was not so…but seems like 512 sometimes does even better than 1024 neh…

Hmm, why does the table on page 1 say the 8800GTX/GTS/Ultra is DX9.0C only? They support DX10 just as much as the 8800GT and the new GTS.

Spider is not ready, i know, but what if AMD CPUs cannot overclock? I asked only that redo this test on an AMD (spider or 6400+ …)platform.

I think there is no big diference with new drivers. The review is great.
Can you add the results in Crysis high settings?
