NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT sneak peek and early bench

First GeForce 9 series card to hit the market in February is NVIDIA’s GeForce 9600GT. Do not be fooled by the 8800GT-like cooler! It is only to replace 8600GT, not 8800GT.

The card’s frequency is 650/1625/1800MHz(core/shader/mem), using PCB design P545, GPU codename is “G94-300″, made by TSMC’s 65nm process technology. Like 8800GT, the black cooler also made by CoolerMaster.

The internal driver for 9600GT is out today(deep inside the industry), we will get it later, so we have to mod the Device ID into 169.25WHQL’s NV_disp.inf. And the driver fully support the card. After the mod we managed to run a comparison test between G94 and two G92:

Testbed:

CPU: Intel Core 2 QX9650 Retail (333MzX9)
Mobo: Asustek Maximus Formula ROG X38 DDR2
Memory: Geil 1GBX2 DDR2-800 4-4-4-10-1T
HDD: WD 3200YS 7200RPM
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit SP1 Beta V.668
Driver: 169.25WHQL (Moded with 8800GS and 9600GT info)

The card’s performance is similar to 8800GS. But 8800GS is only a temporarily NVIDIA weapon fighting with ATI’s HD3850. 9600GT is a long term product for replacing the 8600GT family. So how did you think about the incoming war between HD 3850\HD 3670 and 9600GT?

I must say, it was a brilliant idea to combine companies which had been struggling to survive against superior competitors with more exciting and technologically sound offerings. Now AMD has placed itself in the wonderful predicament of fighting concurrent wars in the CPU, GPU and Core Logic segments. 15. Doug Friedman Says:

    @G-Man

You man, speak the truth. When AMD acquired ATI, Dave Ortiz was scratching his head trying to figure out how to fight Nvidia’s Geforce 8 series. As you can see, the HD2000 series wasn’t competitive enough. After the acquisition, AMD fucked up barcelona, and ATI fucked up the HD2000.

If you look at the HD3000 series, it wasn’t much engineering involved. ATI cut the io interfaces in half, and threw the castrated HD2000 design at TSMC and told them to produce it on experimental 55nm process. They got lucky that TSMC delivered for them. Makes you wonder why ATI didn’t use AMD’s spare 65nm SOI capacity at Dresden.

And if ATI/AMD go out of business, You’re pretty little Intel+nVidia cards won’t get cheaper! (they will do the opposite because of NO COMPETITION).
You sir’ are just a bad fanboy!

And I wouldn’t say ATI has been struggling, they have some decent products in the Price/Performance segment like the nice Radeon 3850!
The Generation before hand (the x1950 series)had better performance than the competing Geforce 7 7950 GX2, Plus it could do Folding@home – which is a plus.
Also Crossfire has better efficiency than nVidia’s SLI.

And also there was more to the Radeon 3xxx series than just chopping the Memory controller in half. (Doing that usually reduces performance not gain it).

  78. NE Says:

I’m amazed that some people are still so stupid that they don’t realise AMD would basically have commited suicide if they hadn’t acquired ATI. There is no way they could have affored to produce their own graphics division so they were screwed when the graphics/CPU integration occurs if they didn’t have ATI. Acquiring ATI was their ONLY choice for survival. Sure it may have made things slightly worse for both in the short term but companies never survive if they only think of the short term.

  79. CrHasher Says:

For those that don’t understand the new processor in the 9600GT is new in its family and can provide probably faster performance then 8800 Ultra. But it’s released first in a midrange card and it will go from GT to GS GTX then ULTRA in a year or more if this will be the actual name of the card 9600.

  80. Gigalisk Says:

Why is there a beefier core on the 96GT, but the 86GT still rox harder in the benchmarks? I guess i will have to wait for the 98GS…

  81. Master Graphics Says:

CrHasher ,the 9600GT comes out in a different order, they’ll be releaseing a x2 version as leaked on toms hardware, doubt they’ll have an ultra of this card, but it will outshooot the 8600gt by 90%

  88. PSOLORD Says:

Undying although i agree with you about the language issue, i don’t agree with you about 9800GTX/GX2. Nvidia is trying with absolutely no technological innovation to take back the market it is losing from ati the last few months.

GX2 is nothing more than a sandwich of two underclocked gts/512 with heating problems. Who the fuck would like to put this oven in their cases?

As for 9800GTX you must have already heard that it is not a next gen product. It will merely be an overclocked gts/512 with more ram and quite possibly heating problems all over again, due to the G92 65nm process it is based upon.

Nvidia seems to like so much the g92 crap.

Open your eyes nvindians (see i’m polite and i don’t say nvidiots).Nvidia is going to stay without a supporting platform. Intel hates them. AMD hates them. And even their partners didn’t back them up at their efforts to take over DAAMIT.

Mark my words. In one year and a half nvidia will be much more screwed that daamit was several months ago.

Oh and one last thing. LARABEE is coming.

The cordless blenders are extremely powerful and do not involve the hassles of plugging them into the power source. The cordless technology has been incorporated in the contemporary designed newer devices to offer the users maximum freedom. An average blender has a petite dimension of 18x18x31cm that takes only a very short space on the kitchen countertop.
