[First Review] AMD Radeon HD 3450 128MB

AMD did a very good job in entry/HTPC VGA card segment. Comparing to NVIDIA-ruled mid to High-end market, AMD sells quite well in entry/HTPC market. That’s because the company catch the trend, focus on product’s HD video playback ability. The RV610, HD 2400 becomes many HTPC fans’ first choice. After RV670’s debuting, AMD turn their process tech to 55nm, and preparing to roll out more HD 3000 series cards based on RV6XX GPU and 55nm process.

AMD roadmap

In the plans of AMD, their new products covers high-end to entry segment. The RV670 is already hit the market and having a price war between NVIDIA’s 8800 series. HD 3650 and HD 3670(RV635) is for main stream market, and HD 3450 and 3470(RV620) is for entry/HTPC market.

Both RV635 and RV620 will be released at the end of this month. We already have a full review of RV635XT, aka. HD 3670 here. And today we are going to have RV620 reviewed.

Except for the process technology improvement, RV620 also have some enhancement of its features. It supports the no-actual-usage DirectX 10.1 and Shader Model 4.1, PCIe 2.0,and DisplayPort.

RV620 will become Radeon HD 3400 series, HD 3470(RV620 Pro) and HD 3450(RV620 LE).

    Great card for HTPC and great review from expreview pointing out everything worth pointing as always. ATI seems to be on the right track! Also i hear that the new R700 will be more than 50% faster than todays cores so i guess ATI will manage to kick harder nvidias butt this year, like the arrogant bastards deserve.700USD for the 9800GX2? Get the hell out of the industry you stupid jerks!

    hey PSOlord, no flame, please.

    Sorry jeff. I will restrain myself next time (at least i will try :P). But generally in forums, flaming against companies is allowed but not against persons or other posters. These guys at nvidia are funny, really. Thats what happens when you keep your nose up. Give people the half baked gt at 200euros but when serious performance comes into play go ahead and chop their heads off. I wonder how much they will ask for the GT200. I will curse at ATI too if they start taking their prices sky high.

    Plz…someone…try hybrid SLI / crossfire?
    Good job to use low end CPU to test cpu usage!
    Please try the AGP version with lowest prosesor, like pentium III or Via to show how great the UVD and pure Video HD.

  7. Jeff Says:

    @Hok,
    be patient, both of the driver is not done yet.
