More NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT details

9600GT will be the first product of GeForce 9 series.
We know GeForce 9600GT will launch in Feb. 24, to replace GeForce 8600GT. We also know the frequence is 650MHz/1625MHz/1800MHz DDR(core/shader/memory). The reference card is only 512MB GDDR3 9600GT, do 9600GTS doesn’t exist.
GeForce 9600GT use P545 PCB design, the size of P545 is exactly the same with 8800GT’s P939. Coolers of 8800GT and 8800GTS can be installed on 9600GT because row pitch are also the same. But because cost saving, NVIDIA did not euqip 9600GT with a metal frame like 8800GT. So the core can be smashed easily while installing new coolers, that’s not a good news for after market cooler lovers.
The G94 is a TSMC 65nm core, GPU PCB is about 35mm X 35mm,smaller than G92’s 38mm X38mm. The die is not align center, it is rotated about 40 degrees. The die is about 15.6mm x 14.8mm, smaller than G92’s die(17.5mm X 18.3mm).
In MOD 169.25 WHQL and in the latest nTune, we can not read the frequency or adjust it. The problem is solved in the 171 drivers. But in the Driver 9600GT still did not show its name, in that bar it only shows “G92-100″.
We already finished the review. But because of the new driver we have to rerun some test items. We will post some interesting comparisons later on.
