Catalyst 8.1 WHQL test
Benchmark and game performance
The result shows the new Catalyst 8.1 did not have improvement on games. It seems ATI focus on patching graphic bugs more than improve performance. Good news for normal gamers, which want more stability but bad news for extreme users.
If you have any problem on your current game’s graphic, update the driver. But if you did not encounter any issues, then don’t bother to update Catalyst.
In this test we didn’t test on CFX or HD 2XXX on DX10 Crysis. So if you have any interesting find on this part, please leave a note on the comments.

the new driver is coming, in the 8.2 test we will test Crysis for sure

I see this was tested on a 3850. Why not the 3870 which most people use? I know for a fact that 8.1 increased my 3dmark06 score by over 100. Other people reported higher yet.

Hello guys! Here is my new updated file with catalyst 8.1 results against my previous benches.

Nothing great about the new tests actually. Only in lost planet i noticed huge performance gain with the 8.1 driver.
Also as you will see i am starting bencmarking 3870 with oc Q6600@3600mhz vs oc E8400@4200mhz. It is very early but he first two games i tested, call of duty 4 and supreme commander run faster on the Q6600 which for me is surprise since multithreading is not fully implemented in games yet! But maybe those too are actually more multithreaded than some other older games.
If expreview would be so king to make a similar test it would be great.
Of course I will continue testing.
