8800 GS 384MB card comparison：XFX vs. Palit

The selling point of XFX GeForce 8800 GS 384MB DDR3 XXX is the high frequencies. The 680/1700MHz is more higher than palit’s 8800GS 384MB.Please look at the chart for details. But the price is a bit high, 207USD, the same price of Palit 8800GS 768MB.

XFX products are always the eye candies for gamers. But in fact they only have the same 6-layer PCB.

Though the appearance is quite different, but the length is the same between XFX and Palit. Both versions uses 3-phase power modules, two phase for GPU’s power supply and one for memory’s.

XFX’s PCB design looks like 8800GT’s reference board, all power modules placed on the card’s right side. And Palit’s design put two phase power modules on the left side of the board and one power module in the right.

The I/O interface of XFX 8800GS is traditional, dual DVI+ S-Video. Palit version 88000GS only have one DVI and S-Video but adds a HDMI.

XFX 8800GS’s core frequency is 680MHz, more higher than Palit version’s 575MHz.

XFX 8800GS uses HYB18H512321BF-14 Qimonda 1.4ns GDDR3 memory chip. The default memory clock is 714MHz. So the XFX’s default memory frequency 800MHz is a bit overclocked.

We noticed the Palit version 8800GS uses HYB18H512321BF-XP 1.2ns GDDR3 memory. The default memory clock is 833MHz, and Palit sets the clock at 850MHz, also a bit overclocked but not as much as XFX did.

The cooler it used is a made of cooper, heavy. But the fan only have two wires, it doesn’t support automatic fan speed adjustment, runs 100% all the time.

Also the cards comes with a metal bar which can prevent PCB transform.
