About 9600GT RPM problem: NVIDIA saving every penny they earned

According to Rivatuner’s writer Unwinder, 9600GT’s fan speed can not be read in RPM, because while NVIDIA designing the 9600GT PCB, they did not add a sensor chip which is “able to digitize pulses from the fan’s tachometer pin”. So when we use Rivatuner we are not able to detect the actual RPM of the fan.

The RPM reading is not a big deal, but 9600GT is a over-150USD mid to high range card. NV just saving every penny to make it really feels like a low end.

    Those guys that are going for 9600GT in the hopes to overclock them like crazy and then spin up the fan, are in for a treat! Kudos to nvidia once more for screwing themselves by every chance they get. Don’t worry nvidia the ATI r7xx generation is just around the corner and then you will see the treat your 9xxx products will get.

    The scrooges at nVidia already put a noisy single slot cheap-a$$ fan on it, and now they didn’t even put a decent sensor chip on the card? How dismal.

    People who pick any single slot card in hopes of overclocking them like “crazy” would be smart enough to buy a better heatsink and fan, such as the VF900/VF1000, or a water block.

    not a big deal guys, sure the early reference ones might come out without temp reading function but the distributors will more than likely take care of that by adding one to the pcb
