ATI Catalyst 8.3, worth the wait?

Yesterday HotHardware shares lots of information of the long awaiting driver: Catalyst 8.3. This time ATI finally start to support CrossFireX. But the crossfireX is still in the early stage because it only supports DirectX9. In DirectX10 CrossFireX only supports Call of Juarez.

But in the AA part, ATI did a good job. Unreal3 engine games can now enjoys AA in DirectX9.
What’s more, someone here has already got the driver, using HD 3870 X2 Quad CrossfireX to get impressive 25k in 3Dmark06. It seems the new driver really worth the wait.

So what about the “4800″ series? People are assuming that hybrid xfire will work between a “4800″ and a 3800 but the future applicability has not been presented yet. It would be nice if we could keep mix matching cards together, old and new, to stack up a nice quad xfirex system. 3870×2 + 4870×2 support would be ideal since you could dive into an x2 now and reap the rewards when the 4870×2 comes out. That could be dreaming though…
