GeForce 9800GX2 got reviewed and still buggy
Pconline.com just released an review of NVIDIA GeForce 9800GX2(but to me, it is only a quick bench). In the test they use a QX6850(333*9=3GHz) , Striker II Formula(nVIDIA 780i), GA-X48-DQ6, PNY DDR2-1066 1GB x 2. Driver is 173.67beta and Cat 8.3.

There is two things you should keep in mind:
1. They have to enable SLI via Forceware control panel manually to utilize two G92 cores.
2. The card didn’t work on X48 mainboard. Yes they can use it on the board but if 3D application starts users will only see a crash notice.
We don’t know both issues are the Driver bugs or hardware problems.
The full article is here in Chinese.

So it is clear that NVIDIA’s driver team will work nonstop until 18th of March
First results show that 9800GX2 will be stronger than 3870X2.

[…] 9800GX2 review Source Still, it costs like twice what the 3870×2 costs. Hope nvidia sorts out the bugs by launch though […]

haha, i thought 9800GX would be a failure.. then i saw the chart, it seems like it’s better than 3870X2..

drivers are already up too 174.51 (for GX2 forceware drivers) so I would expect performance to be better than chart shown above..
Yum!

Well for all the nvidia fanboys, the card is still vaporware that keeps getting delayed. It STILL does not support dx 10.1, shader 4.1, etc. So you are going to blow big money on something that doesn’t even support the latest official DX?

Also, the last page of the Chinese review says that its expected to retail around 549 Euros, which is $857 american dollars. I call that a ripoff.

It’s around $600-700.

DX 10.1 is just a minor change. It basically is changing how hardware implements antialiasing.

tc.. when did either of those matter? even knowing the differences, they won’t……..

9800GX2 is super expensive. It is going to be one of nvidias greatest failures. The only reason they release it is that they just wanted a dual GPU card, since ATI surpassed them. The best card for the buck is 3870X2 period. And oh just you wait untel rv7xx gets release. Then you will see how times change for nfuckia.

“2. The card didn’t work on X48 mainboard.”
As they intend to release it next Tuesday, I doubt it’s a bug - looks intentional to me. Probably they want to keep people from running it on Intel chipset mainboards because they would find out that the shady trick is active here again.
That, and possibly also that they want to force people to buy nforce mainboards for their cards.
Either is really disgusting.

[…] I think its a good buy. Drivers for the 9800gx2 arent polished or optimized in the least. http://en.expreview.com/2008/03/13/g…d-still-buggy/ […]
