final conclusion

Let’s return to the questions we write in the Page 1 and try to answer it.
●With the new forceware, will 8800GT SLI scales better than it used to be?
NVIDIA try to catch up with AMD in dual GPU solution, and achieve a good result via Forceware update and hardware improvement. From our driver comparison you can see, SLI is improving. In 169.28 Beta, 8800GT 512MB SLI have been improved. In totally 19 test items, totally 10 test item shows the SLI setup scales more than 50%. 6 items as high as 70%. The average scaling up to 49.4%.
What’s more, 174.16 WHQL boosts 8800GT SLI even higher. In all the 19 test items, 10 of it scales higher than 50%. 8 items higher than 70%. averagely the scaling is improved to 54.6%. back to our article CF VS SLI written last year, “SLI can only scale 40% items up to 50%.” so with today’s new driver, 8800GT SLI scales better than it used to be.
But there is something we could not understand. Till now NVIDIA still didn’t release 174.16WHQL or other Forceware based on this version for 8800GT officially. Normal users still have to stick with the old 169.25WHQL.

NVIDIA still “recommends” 169.25 WHQL for 8800GT
● 9600 GT SLI scales better than ever? How good it is?
The average 9600GT SLI scaling is 63.25%, a very crazy ratio. In games like LostPlanet, Company of Heroes, Bioshock and 3Dmark06, SLI scaling up to 80% more.
● 174.16 WHQL help 9600 GT SLI scales better?
Yes, but only the driver can not make such a great improvement. In the same ForceWare 174.16, Compare to 8800GT SLI, 9600GT scales 10% better averagely. NVIDIA have done some changes in the core, or the PCB, to help the card scales.
● 8800GT SLI and 9600GT SLI, which have a better price/performance ratio?
33% cheaper and only 10% performance loss, 9600GT SLI have a better price/performance ratio.

Because of the production cost and the processing technology, nowadays the traditional single GPU product development is facing a stagnation. In this year multi-GPU solution is going strong, will rule the mid to high end market for a long time till the real next gen GPU is out.SLI is still far from satisfy, but we can already feel the improvement.

how did you use the 174.16 with the 8800gt ?
March 26th, 2008 at 1:46 am
That is very interesting. When the 9600GT runs at a unplayable FPS (below 30FPS), the 8800GT is also runs below 30FPS.

Need to rebench with the latest official 174.53 WHQL drivers for 9600GT. Also the latest 174.74 leaked drivers supports all GF6/7, GF8 and GF9 without needing to mod the inf.
