If you look at the video cards as a whole and you look at the current interface that these new cards are supposed to be running at full capacity on, the 9800 GX2 is not that big of an improvement over the 8800 Ultra. In many cases the 8800 Ultra even out-preformed the 9800 GX2. Personally I feel that nVidia is still working on fully utilizing the new technology of the newer supported DDR3 and PCIe-2.0 on the system boards. Since these items are in their infancy it is obvious that things might not have been implemented correctly. Yet as it was stated earlier the 9900 is the gum or crack filler in between releases but when you look at the general scheme of things the 790i motherboards were released during the or before the 790i chipset so it is very possible that the integration of the 9800 GX2 is not working at the full speeds as intended because the scope of their development did not include the 790i architecture or the PCIe 2.0 architecture. Therefore, since these video cards are going to be built for PCIe 2.0 the 9800 GX2 is actually the crack filler where the 9900 GX2 will be an improvement and will utilize more of the chipset and speed of the newer motherboards and PCIe 2.0.

Since the technology of PCIe 2.0 is so new it actuly makes more sence to wait for the video cards which are released after their first PCIe 2.0 compliment graphics cards or basically waiting for the next revision or later release. In other words "Wait until the technology has been perfected!" by just buying the latest and greatest you set yourself up for failure since there are many revisions and changes that can happen after a new technological release. Yet since some people chose not to wait and got caught in the cross fire they are now whining about it.

It is not anyones fault if you can't do the research into the new releases and/or wait to blow your wad when the technology has been perfected. I plan on getting 2 9900 GX2 Cards since PCIe 2.0 has been release along with the 790i chipset. The only thing nVidia can do is improve on the new technology.

Furthermore, I have had 3 ATI cards burn out on me due to shotty traces and at this point I am not turning back from nVidia. Furthermore, nVidia works the best with Linux in my opinion and I am very happy with the Driver supports "Thumbs Up To nVidia."

Re: 9800 GTX

The 9800 GTX is a great card. It out perfroms the 3870 X2...even the 8800 GTX and Ultra. It is the fastest single GPU solution available right now. You get more performance from two 9800 GTXs in SLI than you get from a single 9800 GX2. Three 9800 GTXs in Tri-SLI out perform two 9800 GX2s in SLI. I'd hardly call that bubble gum there "Kring". In a number of games a single 9800 GTX out performs a single 9800 GX2. So, IF it is bubble gum, it sure is good gum.

"9800 GTX is NOT disappointing. It costs almost half of a 8800 Ultra and gives the same performance. Could you have imagined a similar perf/price a year ago ?"

yep... it's called ATI!

WoW, Another of nVidia rechew technologies release. 8800gtx -> 9800gtx -> 9900gtx. 90mm -> 65mm -> 55mm with little improvements in feature (VP1 -> VP2). Until AtiMD come out with 4000HD and Intel with 4800HD, we will not see anything new from nVidia. I am calling for a GENERATION (g80, g92, g94, ...etc...) BOYCOTT of nVidia.
