GeForce 9800GX2 will be EOLed in three months

Update: According to sources, 9900GX2 do not exist for now. We will update infomation ASAP.

NVIDIA is preparing two GT200 card, the single GPU 9900GTX and dual GPU 9900GX2. It seems one of the card will not only have a similar performance but also have the same production cost as GeForce 9800GX2, so NVIDIA is going to sentence 9800GX2 to death in June, 2008, according to our sources. It is quite a surprise that even the 8800GS can live longer than the just announced dual PCB GFX card.

I’m hoping the 9900 is delivered very fast.
I don’t know nobody who wants to buy the actual 9800-series.

  2. Gorkem Says:

We hope GT200 will contain totally new technology and consume less energy.

    same here

And Direct X 11 :D –> Because this will be the new flagship.

Nvidia are just out to confuse the mass market, and sell old tech as new tech. Such a shame as their cards are great bang for buck. DONT GET A GX2 get 2 8800 gts in sli for better performance

  7. KKK Says:

How about this: Get Quad-SLI for REAL 9800 performance…? XD

  8. K1|L3R Says:

The series 9 thus far suck balls… Look at the 8800’s, 320Mb or 640Mb of 320bit ram in the GTS and 768Mb of 384bit ram in the GTX and Ultra’s. Why would you go back to 256bit ram and less of it? the only difference is the 9800’s are clocked a bit higher being they are on 65nm technology and a bit cooler. You want the best sytem period? Get a quad extreme with 3 8800GTX’s. Watercool them and show me anytthing that beats it.

Common sense… it’s really not so common.

  9. Socheat Says:

DirectX 10.1 and SM 4.1 will supported?

  10. Hsew Says:

To K1|L3R: totally agree with you. It seems like they’re underestimating the power of ATI and their new generation of cards coming very soon.

    @k1|L3R

Totally disagree with you, SLI scales like crap, and if you look around at performance of 8800GTX in Tri-Fire SLI, a highly clocked 8800GTS 512mb SLI rig will outperform it.

And xfire 3870×2’s will also outperform it in benches and games. The new 9800GTX is basically a GTS 512mb with higher clocks. They are great performers and they will outperform a 8800GTX with ease.

The problem here isnt the lower memory interface, the problem is the release of the 9800GTX. They could have released the 9800GTX card 3 months ago when they released the GTS 512mb.

And seriously, take a look at any comparisons, in real gaming a 8800GTS 512mb will outperform a 8800GTX, both running at stock speeds, and the 8800GTS uses much less power.

The 8800GTX with the G80 core has no plus sides to it, if your buying a video card now, do not waste 400 dollars on a 8800gtx when you can spend 200 dollars and get a card that will easily outperform it and use much less power.

The 9 series may use the same core as the newer 8 series but it’s still FASTER. There is only going to be evolutionary steps, not revolutionary like the jump from the 7 to 8 series.
I keep hearing everyone whine about the memory and the interface being used on the new cards compared to the 8800gtx. If you look at the tests, that extra memory only adds a few fps and it is very expensive to use. Memory on a video card is only a part of the performance.
Believe it or not, the biggest consumers for video cards is not the high end geeks like us but the mid and low end users looking for price/performance ratio. It wouldn’t suprise me a bit if the new 9900 series is only a bit faster. Why would Nvidia need to put out anything super great. Maybe you’ve missed the news on ATI/AMD latley. No compitition, no reason…
