Review: NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT,first budget card in GeForce 9 series
â—†New technology on 9500GT
9500GT have a new GPU, the G96-300. It got some “new improvements” comparing to 8600GT/GTS:
â–¡ 65nm process GPU
From G92, NVIDIA began to move process technology from 80nm to 65nm. G84 GPU in 8600GT/GTS is a 80nm process product. A smaller process technology can help GPU to achieve a higher frequency while lower power consumption and production price.
â–¡ Supports PCI-E 2.0
From G9X NVIDIA begin to support PCIe 2.0. Rises bandwidth from 2.5Gbps (PCIe Gen1 X16) to 5Gbps(PCIe Gen2 X16).
Architecture
Same to other GeForce 9 series cards, GeForce 9500GT’s GPU architecture is base on G80 unified architecture, it have 32 shader processors, 128 bit memory bandwidth and 8 ROPs, totally the same with 8600GTS.

Rivatuner
From this 9500GT ES we gather these informations: 550/1375/800MHz(core/shader/memory), somewhat lower than 8600GTS, close to 8600GT. Consider HD 3650 now in the market are all OC versions, we guess NV and its partner are going to roll out OC version of GeForce 9500GT.

The Die size of G96 is 12*12mm, PCB is 29*29mm. Compare to G84 8600GTS, the die size and the PCB is way smaller: 8600GTS die size is 13*13mm and PCB is 33*33mm. Transistor number still unknown. But we speculate that the total amount of transistors will be 290million, almost the same with 8500GTS.

die shot
As a GeForce 9 series product, 9500GT of course supports Hybrid SLI and new PureVideo enhancements. We’ve talked about them for couple times so this time we just jump over it.
In one word, 9500GT is only a mainstream product, no more surprise for us. You can think this is only a 65nm version 8600GT.

Can Expreview please retest with the latest leaked Nvidia Geforce 175.63 drivers? Also the GPU-Z version is very old, it’s now up to 0.2.1.
