NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 spy pics…sort of [Update with die pic]

I guess no matter you are a AMD or NVIDIA fanboy, you will love to see some real GeForce GTX 280, not those mechanical drawings. Here is a small leak pic of GTX280. I guess the original source don’t want to be traced so he/she just scale down the pic. In the pic you can see the card looks just like the mechanical drawing.

This is a monster chip! I think ATI this time, made the better approach. The R700 will end up as fast as the GT200 (if not more so) and they will have the advantage that they will be able to dissipate heat from two different chips. Also the rv770 technology is more scalable.

PSLORD! hav’nt ya heard the gtx 280 chews up and spits out crysis in it’s maximum settings watch it on youtube they already have the prototype of the gtx 280 already in december 2007! Nvidia did not release it because of Ageia today they added Physx to the gpu

  3. JEDIMASTER Says:

The one on youtube may possibly be true because no one heard the name gtx 280 at that time. So it may be a prototype.

If there is no DX 10.1 support, that is just insane on their part. Its already been proven by several websites that DX 10.1 does improve the FPS greatly with AA. The ONLY reason nvidia can not be adding it is because they are afraid it will help ATI more or make their cards equal. I’m getting to the point I doubt I’ll buy an nvidia card ever again due to their poor business practices.

  8. JEDIMASTER Says:

It’s too late for DX 10.1 to become popular because it developers like Crytek don’t think of it as such a great improvement so Nvidia might be focused on Crysis 2 and DX 11

  9. Cube Says:

You saw an performance gain in Assassin’s creed, but what you saw were poorer image details than on dx10, that is why performances were higher on ATI 38×0, that is why Ubisoft released patch,to remove 10.1 and to implement it right in following future (next patches probably)
Considering 10.1 there is no game that will be run on that API this year(except AC), next year dx11 will come with Windows 7 , so it doesn’t pay off to do games where “upgrade” API will last about a year.

  10. Hooty Says:

Jedimaster, Microsoft canceled the DX 11 project for now.
