NVIDIA Acquires RayScale Software – Bringing Ray Tracing to the GPU

Earlier yesterday at an NVIDIA meeting , NVIDIA claimed that thay would be announcing the acquisition of a ray reacing software company called RayScale . RayScale was a startup based out of the University of Utah and has built a hybrid renderer that merges traditional rasterization and ray tracing techniques .

Although the acquisition is now cut and dried , there will be some time for us to see these techniques in games – both the software and hardware need time to mature and be optimized ; and both the companies need time for the superior use of GPU in ray tracing .

The following is some information about the ray tracing technique :

ps:comparing to many game CG , the pic is somewhat ugly XDDD

Nvidia is preparing for DX 11 so that they wouldn’t have trouble with Intel and ATI &
AMD because ray tracing requires a lot of power to render 1 image.
