[Quick sum-up] GT200 and RV770 specifications

According to rumors and facts which are running wild around the net, we compiled this chart. all GT200 and RV770 cards will be announce in June, and ATI’s dual core flagship card R700(HD 4870 X2) will be announced in August, because information is so limited so i did not all the card to the chart.

It seems that RV770XT is a decent chip for GPGPU applications because its FLOPs have already reach tera, but will the 256bit memory bandwidth bottlenecked our gaming experience? Let’s wait for the launch.

First time I read GTX 260, I am impress by the spec. I wrongly thing that this almost flasgship spec is the 9600 GT replacement. But after I see the price, I just know that this beautiful almost flagship spec is like Geforce 8800 GTX (below ultra or second flasgship for single card :( ( ).

  2. JEDIMASTER Says:

It’s hard to choose because the cards are good at something and bad at the other but if your saving money ATI wins. But for me if your a “money is no object”(which I am not) performance gamer/Enthusiast then the GTX 280 is better, all it needs is a little overclocking. And by the way specifications differ from actual performance.

  3. JEDIMASTER Says:

I give the maximum eye candy award to Nvidia for its fast texture filling rate and fast shader clock. I think the GTX 260 can beat the HD 4870 with just a little help from overclocking. Ha! and ATI said GDDR5 is 4 times faster than GDDR4 and 5 times faster than GDDR3, I really don’t see 1935Mhz 5 times faster than 1296Mhz!? GDDR5 “will allow to transmit data with 12.8 Gbit/s, GDDR4 : 3.2 Gbit/s, GDDR3 : 2.4 Gbit/s, The superiority of GDDR5 over GDDR3 reaches five times and four time above GDDR4″

  4. PSOLORD Says:

Excellent compilation of the specs from expreview! Bravo! That’s what i’ve been reading the past month.

Now to attempt a comparison, if you take under consideration the performance/price/wattage ratio, ati wins hands up!

Also just you wait for the 4870X2, with single frame buffer rendering, 960shaders, 64tmus, 32rops, 2GB GDDR5(?),2GigaFlops.

Also don’t forget that the 4870X2 is absolutely possible, since it would only need 2*157=314 watt power feed, which is very doable even today, by drawing 75watt from the pci-e itseft, 150 watt from an 8pin connector and another 75watt from a six pin connector. If need be, ATI could easily add 2 8pin connectors which is the max for most PSUs out there, thus reaching 375 watts.

Now keep in mind those 375 watts and tell me how on earth nvidia could bring out a GX2 version of the GTX 280. They would need 2*236=472 watts! Holy crap!

  5. Wig Says:

“Now keep in mind those 375 watts and tell me how on earth nvidia could bring out a GX2 version of the GTX 280. ”

The difference is. . . . They don’t need to. GTX 280 is more powerful than anything ATI can do already, 4870X2 is a sign of desperation obviously.

  6. Tim Says:

All of those are a LOT higher priced than I expected them to be. I bought my 3870 when it first came out, for $224. If those are the prices, I won’t be upgrading for a long while.

  7. ZeiZu Says:

I bet that Tri-SLi GTX 280 will beat easily any ATi’s CFX configuration for next year after GTX 280 has been published.

  8. ajai Says:

You all recall the computer that is gonna be build with lots of GTX280′s well if RV770XT can give more in terms of GPGPU performance than a gtx 280 just think what a R700 can do and will also be cheaper…!!!

Are they crazy? 200+W for one single card?
    ATI may be winning again…

  11. Prawdator Says:

Haha! Radeon HD4870 X2 is a sign of desperation and GF 9800 GX2 is not? Pleaseee…

I think the triple SLI will be difficult unles you have a powerplant in your room :) And the 4870 won’t have to fight even the GF 260 in its price range, both realese dates are in june so GF wont get cheaper before radeons hit the market.

Whatever all the cards (both ati and nvidia) will be really decent cards :) Maybe we will be able to play crysis at 1920×1080 at last :]

  12. JEDIMASTER Says:

Benchmarks of these cards will appear as early as July 3 or earlier, let’s see who’s the best card :)

  13. JEDIMASTER Says:

    I mean June 3! :) haha

  14. PSOLORD Says:

    Well said @ Prawdator! :)

Talking about desperate moves, i would like to remind everyone, the renaming of the 8800GS to 9600 GSO, the renaming of the 8800 GT to 9800 GT and last but not least the overclocked release of the 8800 GTS 512 with the new name 9800 GTX.

Come on guys. Who is desperate?

Also regarding the sli performance, i remind you that you are forced to have crappy nvidia chipsets and not intel ones. I am not going to prefer nvidia over intel not in a thousand years.

  15. Raiden Says:

    @Psolord
Good point. The entire 9000 series with minimally modified g92 chips is a bad joke, and the sneaky cheat of overclocking by increasing the pci-e bus speed while pretending it runs normally is plain ugly.
Also, having to use a nFarce chipset alone already makes sli unviable (unless you’re masochist).

If you want to compare, you should compare one gtx 260 to two 4850 in crossfire, because one gtx 260 costs almost as much as two 4850.

  16. SpaceGaucho Says:

Interesting chart! If those numbers aren’t very far from reality, then it means that this cards will bring some amazing and promising results. Then again, those ATi prices are looking really nice for a tight budget like mine :]

    SpaceGaucho out.

  17. dirtdiver Says:

PSOLORD, nVIDIA released the 8800GTX at late 2006.

As for now, almost two years later, no single-chip ATI card can match the old 8800GTX.

Desperation is when you have to rely in better price/performance ratio to attract buyers, than relying in having the best performing cards by a huge margin, like ATI did in the Radeon 9700 era.

Need i to remind you the existance of the 3870X2? Granted it is not a single chip card, yet it is a single card nontheless. It costs more than the 9800GTX but performs better.

The only problem ATI currently has, is that there is a wide market gap between the 3870 and the 3870X2, in which nvidia scores better. This will be rectified once the rv770 comes out.

To add insult to injury be informed that there will be a new GT200 chip launched late summer or early q3, imaginetively named GT200b with 55nm process, instantly making the GTX 280+260 obsolete. Once again Nvidia rules!

By that time, R700 will be out, costing less and performing better.

AND I ASK AGAIN : WHO IS PANICKING?

@raiden : good point from you too, god of thunder! ;-)

  24. Jeff Says:

I think R700 is coming too late(August), so there are about two month for GTX 280 to rule the market.

And the chart is not just coming from inq, some other sources confirmed the numbers so i dont think we should add their link for this time.

  25. PSOLORD Says:

@jeff personally i would prefer R700 sooner too. But it doesn’t matter. R700 will be released before the September-October games.

ATI lately does the right thing. Both for their cards and their launches.

With those prices i’m going for the 4870 no matter what and too months later a 4870X2 will be just right. I have two pcs so they are going to be used as appropriate.

Also i hear that the 4870 will have 10 watts idle power consumption along with uvd2, which will make it the best choice for, downloading machines/htpcs/gaming. With one card, you can have it all!

All I see is fanyboy talk. Nothing more, nothing less.

  28. Phuccinnutt Says:

Well of course your going to get a better price value out of the ATI cause the die is 55nm meaning they will be able to punch out more cards then the Nvidia 65nm die
but if you really look at those numbers, even though ATI is smaller and they have two cards and they still cant beat one Nvidia card. It just shows the numbers and the architectural of the ATI is totally different. So they are going one way and Nvidia is going a different way, we can sit here and beat our brains out fighting or discussing which ever way you want to call it all day and night. I dont really care and niether should you. All I care about is haveing that awesome card playing my games and smoken bots and doing what is releases my sum what normal life a little bit easier to handle cause of a stress reliever. Yes and we can bitch or talk normal while were discussing who.s the who and who has the bigger one or the longer one.. Who cares we are the consumer we benifit from them both, keep it up and more is better. Right
