Review: GeForce GTX 280
GTX 280, Graphic and computing solution in one chip
As one of the leading company in the industry, NVIDIA keeps refreshing its flagship product recently. 9800GX2 only lives in the market for three month and now it faces EOL after GTX 280 is out. With 240SP 512bit memory interface and 1GB graphic memory, GTX 280 gaming performance is better than 9800GX2, taking over GX2’s seats after its EOL without no doubt.

What’s more, with the slogan “gaming beyond” NVIDIA not only emphasizing the card is good for gaming, also “beyond gaming” means GTX 260 can do a lot more than just game. By further polishing its CUDA and rolling out second generation unified render and computing architecture the card is also good for advanced computing. In certain application it performs more better than a top CPU. But till now it still lacks of softwares for Personal Computer users to support this feature, we only hope more and more software to support CUDA, and the incoming PhysX won’t let us down.
 We believe after all these hype passes, GTX 280 price will going down to its normal level, in Chinese market GTX 280 and 9800GX2 have already at their same price: 4999CNY (726USD) and we believe in global market GTX 280 can successfully take over 9800GX2’s seat buy successfully lower to 9800GX2 level.

Good review although i don’t understand why you left out the HD tests of the ATI card.
Also we clearly see here that the 30% difference of the 4870X2 against the GTX 280 is a result of the bad AA performance of the rv670s.
Just imagine what will happen once the R700 comes out with the new improved cores. I forsee that 30% to be switched and enlarged!

Since it is possible to use 55nm on the GTX 280/260 it is possible to increase the numbers of transistors and initial sizes of the core and they would hopefully create a GTX 280/260ULTRA or even better, a GX2

Yet Nvidia STILL lags behind ATI for using the latest technology. STILL no Directx 10.1, STILL no Shader model 4.1. Both of which are the official standard. I guess their cards just can’t handle it.

@PSOLORD,
we all know that in HD both companies keep the spec unchanged, so we only tested it with older NV cards.
