9800GTX+ surprises us with its 55nm GPU and release date
Right after HD 4850’s unofficial debut, NVIDIA act fast and send every one their new product notice: 9800GTX+ is just at the corner. Basically saying, the card is still a 9800GTX but with NVIDIA’s first 55nm GPU chip and a higher clock.
This is NVIDIA first time using 55nm processing technology in GPU production, the 55nm processing can reducing G92 core size from 334mm^2 to 276mm^2, not only can lower its production cost but also can allowing the card runing with a higher clock. It is said that 9800GTX+ runs at 738MHz/1836MHz(Core/SP).
When the card comes out in June 25th, it will be set at $229, and the company will also lower the 65nm 9800GTX to $199, in order to compete with HD 4850 in a better price point.
We also scores some official photos of the card, enjoy them.

I like the $229 price tag. Too bad nvidia left a pretty big gap between this card and the gtx 260/280. They should lower the price of the gx2 to about $350 so it can better compete with the 4870. What I really don’t understand, though, is why nvidia wouldn’t develop the gtx 260/280 cards using 55nm. Maybe that’s what’s next.

i think nvidia’s marketing crew need a big slap to the face. And hopefully ATI will deliver it swiftly and promptly

nVidia is all about marketing at the moment. It’s pathetic. As said above, they do need a slap in the face, and hopefully ATi can do that.
As for what fail said, apparently there will be a revision of the GTX 260/280 to 55nm while will be codenamed GT200b instead of GT200.

By the time 260/280 are on 55nm, 4800 will be on 45nm.
If it’s about a new process technology introduction it is first intel then AMD then nVidia.

@Kedas: I award you the cup, you have said everything in 1 1/2 lines that any1 could ever say from the ATi side, including me….well done…. now here’s your cup
