GTX 200 series Availability Check

The GTX 280 & GTX 260 were priced as high as $649 & $499 at first.However, after the debut of HD 4800 series which priced at $329 & $199, people found they are much stronger for their price comparing to the GTX 200 series, forcing NVIDIA to drop price.

As we know, the GTX 280 & 260 droped to $549 & $369 yesterday, but when we checked on the price on Newegg today, we found three GTX 280s priced at $499, including the Palit, Gigabyte & Asus. Even more, MSI’s GTX 260 has droped to $299.

Accordingly, the GTX 280 has the same price as R700(4870 X2) now, which will launch on Augest for $499. Let’s see who laughs best who laughs last.

    its all a marketing scam by nVidia to lure people in and hit em with the big ugly stick when you’re not expecting it… nvidia simply can not afford the cards @ them prices e.g. 199/299 because that’s what the cost is to nvidia to build them massive chips… then take into account packaging, partners profits, bills etc etc

    Yeah, I agree with you. The price drop is just a scam.
    But as a user, I’d like to see GTX 260 drop to a price as muc as HD 4870. Since their performance is about the same, That will be interesting
