The Sapphire HD 4850 in blue breeze

Lately, Sapphire announced it’s HD 4850 in completely blue. Featuring a blue PCB, 1GB GDDR3 and a new cooler, the Sapphire HD 4850 feels like the breeze to attract ATI fans. It will be perfect if the card is as cool as it looks.

a totally new cooler, hope it won’t be worse than the reference cooler

except for the PCB color, the card share same features as a reference 4850

looking on the surface, they may share same PCB design, but saphire features 1GB GDDR3

using Qimonda 1.0ns GDDR3, 8 module sum for 1 GB memory and run at 1986 MHz

same power module as a reference card

With a new cooler I think this card will be much better

New cooler ? I don’t think so. Only the cover seems to be different, the heatsink look the same as the 512 Mb.

This is using the reference cooler, just compare its underside in picture 2 with the standard cooler, exactly the same.

I don’t think so. Although the two looks almost the same, actually they’re different.
As the reference card has a heatsink on the power module, while the sapphire one combines it to the main cooler.

The refernence designs main cooler covers the power module as it is the same cooler as on the hd3850 (http://resources.vr-zone.com/Firefox/Radeon%20HD3000/IMG_0209.jpg) and the sapphire cooler is exactly the same except for the extended cover which if anything would trap hot air. It is good to see HD4850 designs with 1GB of memory but I would be more interested in a 1GB HD4870 and how that would compare to a GTX280.

I still think that the reference design looks better… Will 1GB of memory be usefull? =P

maybe run games in 2560×1600 and 1GB will be useful

In gpgpu apps the 1GB memory will be very useful!
