AMD talks about CrossFire PCI-E bandwidth: 8X enough for HD 4800

Earlier at a official lanuch of 4800 series in India, Raja Koduri the Chief Technology Officer of AMD, said that for the 4800 series, 8X PCI-E connectors is enough for today’s games, since games and drivers has been optimised to remove traffic obstrutions between GPUs.Meanwhile, Raja Koduri admitted 16X PCI-E connectors will be better for the future use.

As we know, the P45 supports two 8X PCI-E CF, while X38 & X48 support two 16X PCI-E CF. That means if you want to CF two HD 4800s together for current games, P45 will be enough.

However, most ubers don’t think so. HD 4800 series in CrossFire is so hot these days. Tweaktown also compared the X48 and P45 in CrossFire. In fact, we are also reviewing CF in more different chipsets, allowing you to find your answer for CF.
