Non-reference HD 4850 Roundup:
As we know, the Radeon HD 4850 delivers a amazing performance/price ratio, as well as a amazing amount of heat. It will hit the GTX 260 if being overclocked and well cooled. Accordingly, various manufacturers prepare their HD 4850 with their own cooler. Besides 1GB/2GB memory versions, OC versions appear as well.

The first non-reference HD 4850 was the Asus EAH4850 1GB. Asus re-designs not only the Glaciator cooler, but increases to 1GB GDDR3 as well. The EAH4850 runs at 625/993MHz(Core/Memory), the same as a reference card.
PowerColor pushes the memory even more. It prepare the HD 4850 with 2GB GDDR3. Meanwhile a ZeroTherm copper cooler is equiped.

Sapphire introduces two non-reference HD 4850 including Sapphire HD 4850 1GB and SAPPHIRE HD 4850 TOXIC.
The Sapphire HD 4850 1GB features a blue PCB and cooler design as well as 1GB GDDR3. The card run at a reference clocks at 625/993MHz.

The Sapphire HD 4850 TOXIC pushes the reference clock a little forward, it runs at 675/1100MHz, 50MHz, 107MHz exaltation respectively.

MSI also introduces its non-reference HD 4850 with a big cooler, with the sink expending to the back panel. No mention the reference clock.

At last the Colorful, a manufacturer based in China, introduces its HD 4850 with the largest cooler. The Zalman VF1050 on it features copper base and four heatpipe preparing by fin penetration technology. No mentionthe referenceclock again.
Besides, there will be a HIS non-reference HD 4850 too with a IceQ cooler. And In fact, the high-end HD 4870 non-reference card will be more amazing for its “Super RV770″, but we only have the Diamond HD 4870 XOC Black Edition in stock now.
Taking account into the six HD 4850, we found manufacturers are eager to provide non-reference coolers to satisfy their customers. However , as a uber you will surely think poorly of them. Thus we are preparing a review among several VGA coolers to find out the best for you and you can give some suggestion for the sample as well, please give attention for further notice.

The extra coolers out there at the moment are fairly poor… for example the duorb, has poor cooling on the rear.

I notice that some of those cards don’t have heatsinks on the chips on the back end of the card, I assume it must not need it there then?

@TC: do you mean the power module? I agree that the power module is just a piece of cake comparing to the core, as the infrared pics of the HD 4870. You know, they’re both hot babes.
