Dell releases fix for NVIDIA’s faulty mobile GPU

As we know, NVIDIA committed some of their mobile GPUs are faulty, but no mentioned where the problem lies in. Some people guess that the faulty ASIC design causes the “cool-hot-cool” process destorying the chip, and reflash a modified BIOS will help alleviate the problem.

As might be excepted, Dell releases several BIOSs to alleviate the problem now.In the official Blog Direct2Dell, BIOSs are listed as the following:

According to Lionel Menchaca, the Chief Blogger, the new BIOSs modify “the fan profile to help regulate GPU temperature fluctuations”. The new BIOS won’t resolve the problem completely. For chips which haven’t experienced failures, the BIOSs will help alleviate the problem, but if your chip has been experiencing failures, the BIOS won’t help.

    I have a Compal IFL-90, GFX 8600m GT, sometimes it hangs even when i’m not playing videogames, and i got recently a BSOD saying memory parity error could it be related to an NVIDIA faulty chip?!

    @Starkiller
    8600m GT is a G84 based chip, so I think it’s better to update the a new BIOS to alleviate the problem.

    For your problem, according to Direct2Dell, symptoms during early stages of failure include:
    1.Multiple images
    2.Random characters on the screen
    3.Lines on the screen
    4.No video

    So it seems you haven’t experienced the failure.
    “Memory parity error” is related to the ECC, it seems your RAM isn’t working properly. I suggest you taking the following tosolve the problem:

    1. get touch with your OEM(cyberpower) for help
    2. enter the BIOS setup and disable ECC

    Hope you can solve your problem soon :)
