Driver performance check: 175.19 VS 177.92

 

Note: PhysX 08.08.18 WHQL packed with the driver, but still did not support all legacy PhysX runtime through CUDA. Release note saids only games uses physX SDK version 2.7.3, 2.7.2, 2.8.0 and 2.8.1 can be accelerate by GeForce cards. With out CUDA support on legacy PhysX runtime, some old games still need a Ageia PhysX processor to play.

X58 gets native SLI support, without a nForce 200 chip

 

Support for SLI on the X58 isn’t something new, since NVIDIA has proposed that motherboard makers using its nForce 200 chip on their boards. However, the company said today that they will enable SLI on X58 motherboards, not for a nForce 200 chip, but only a “cookie”.

Galaxy boosts 9400GT with 1.0ns GDDR3

 

Following the Geforce 9400GT announcement, various manufacturers introduce their 9400GT, but a reference 9400GT features GDDR2 @ 400MHz. Now Galaxy pushes 9400GT some steps forward. The Galaxy 9400GT will come with 1.0ns GDDR3 which means 1000MHz reference clock(the memories are set to 800MHz actually). What’s more, the card runs at 600/1500MHz(Core/Shader), with 50/100MHz upper than a reference card.

DisplayLink brings multi-monitors to G45

 

The DP-120/160 chips can transcode USB signal into DVI signal

If you found dual monitors output isn’t adequate and want more, DisplayLink technology will satisfy you. The DP-120/160 chips will transcode USB signal into DVI signal. Accordingly, picutres can be output to a monitor through a USB cable instead of a coarse, clumsy DVI cable, and now this technology will also appears on Intel’s chipsets.

ATI officially “optimize” catalyst for Furmark, making it run slower

 

AMD released Catalyst 8.8 a week ago, and according to our test result, some DirectX game title have a big improvement, but in Furmark test the driver shows up a negative result…FPS lower a lot, and GPU temperature also lowered. But things did not happen in OpenGL title Quake War.

After we posted HD 4870 PCS+ issue check, many of you give valuable comments, thank you. Our reader Kazarang hinted that if rename furmark.exe to other stuff, then Furmark will become normal again.

Catalyst 8.8 makes reverse results between HD 4870 and HD 3870?

 

Resently we posted an article comparing Catalyst 8.8 with 8.7, in which we mainly focused on their behavior on DirectX. Providing us a furthur view, the OpenGL news site Geek3D posted an article titled ‘ATI Catalyst 8.8 vs 8.7: OpenGL Performance Drop’ which is based on HD 3870.

Powercolor HD 4870 PCS+: stability issues check

 

As we mentioned in HD 4870 review, Radeon HD 4870 have a very good graphic performance, but poor in  temperature/cooling and power consumption. Powercolor HD4870 PCS+ is the first non-reference 4870,  and all of us are looking forward of this product, expecting it have a way better cooling. So when we got the card we did not run normal performance testing but instead of  temperature test. We hope after a month’s preparation, AIB manufacturers introduce a product more better than reference HD 4870.
