NVIDIA buys LongRun and Low Power Computing Technology from Transmeta

Transmeta’s Efficeon microprocessor

Transmeta Today announced that it has entered an agreement with NVIDIA Corporation granting to NVIDIA a non-exclusive and fully paid-up license to all of Transmeta’s patents and patent applications, and a non-exclusive license and transfer of certain Transmeta advanced power management and other computing technologies.And NVIDIA agrees to pay Transmeta a one-time, non-refundable license fee of $25.0 million.

Transmeta used to be a x86 compatible microprocessor manufacturer, having Cruoe and Efficeon on its hand. NVIDIA announced to work on chipsets for Efficeon in 2003. However, transmeta doesn’t manufactures microprocessors now. Intellectual property is availablefor license, and Transmeta gain $1.1 million from Intel for settlement and licensing agreement.

NVIDIA still has no words on this agreement yet on its homepage.
