barely competitive? price-wise amd has always been very competitive. amd keeps the competition in check. where else would you get a quadcore for less than $200.

graphics-wise id say amd is more than competitive now. before amd really started running ati after the aquisition NV was charging $800 for a graphics card, now NV’s flagship can be had for half that.

so IMO if you want a competitve machine without having to take a note amd is pretty much the way to go. Also IMO if you want an extreme machine, ATI/AMD is still the way to go graphics-wise.

even though the 890 boards will be delayed i think the Denebs will still be competitive on a revamped 790.

What does barely competitive mean? It doesn’t overclock high enough on internet review sites? Is that your measurement. If so, then you have a bizarre view of the world

i am really disappointed, i was looking foward to the 890 especially since it was going to be optimized for crossfire which probably would have made the 4870×2 even faster.

will the am3 790 have ddr3 memory support? will it be dirt cheap? otherwise it may be more prudent to go intel/crossfire for my next upgrade in q109, although i was really looking forward to a 3+ghz deneb/4870×2.

i guess i will settle for nehelem/4870×2 instead if the mobo doesn’t meet those 2 requirements.

Phenom is not “poor” cpu and 790gx/SB750are not poor chipsets.AMD will launch cheap AM3/AM2+ SKUs that will actually OC well on these boards and won’t cost an arm and a leg,unlike intels X58(8 layer boards!)+XE 965 combination.Non XE chips will be able to squeze 140Mhz from QPI thus renedering them useless for any meaningfull OC.

So with Deneb,IPC will go up,OC will go up,TDP will go down,prices will stay the same or slightly higher than today Phenom lineup;boards will cost the same(read cheaper than intel’s.With Nehelem,TDP will go up(from C2Q),OC will go down and price will go up;boards are going to cost the same or more than PREMIUM X48 boards now(read A LOT!).

So,x1reme ,next time more factsx and less fantasy.

this is the last thing AMD wants to do, with poor cpu and motherboard power as a whole (spider)

if you cant produce high end tech, at least produce it on time for gods sake or should i say for amd`s sake. there is only so many chances a company can have before it loses its all fan base and ultimately going bust. little things lead to big things.
