LGA775 Processor & 4 Series Motherboard About To Lead in 2009
If you presume Core 2 Series are about to retire with the launch of Core i7 processor, then you’re far from right. Intel predicts Nehalem’s shipment will take up only 10 percent till Q3 2009, and then Nehalem family will be added a new member – Lynnfield processor which targets at mainstream & high-performance market. The pricing of Core i7 shall descend as well.

It’s predicted that Core 2 Series’ shipment is going to occupy half of all processors in Q4 this year, while Pentium and Celeron Series take up 36%. This proportion won’t be changed significantly until Q3 next year.
Similarly, the desktop chipset will take up 93% marketing share, but some changes will happen to the composing. G31 motherboard will be replaced by G41 finally, and Q35/Q33/X38/X48 will take a back seat. Gigabyte has already started to sell G41 motherboards. Galaxy G41 is even available at only $59.
Remark: the above data regarding processors doesn’t involve business platforms, while the data regarding desktop chipset include both consumer and business platforms.

Therefore, LGA775 processor and 4 series motherboard will play an important role in the whole market next year. We reported earlier that Intel would introduce Core 2 Quad processor with lower power consumption. The main improvment is TDP has reduced from 95W to 65W. On the other side, Intel has prepared to add more features into 4 Series chipset, which we’ll continue to follow.
