GeForce GTX285 Gets Reviewed

After the paper launch of dual-GPU GeForce GTX295, lots of reviews on it have popped up. Conversely, Nvidia’s another flagship card GeForce GTX285 catches much less attention. As to now, only some specifications of GTX285 are unveiled, while we can hardly find reviews on its performance.

Despite of the NDS limitation, German hardware site ComputerBase has posted a detailed review on the performance of GeForce GTX285. The site has chosen many GeForce and Radeon cards for comparison, and lots of games are also involved.

Just as we reported, the core/shader/memory frequency of GTX285 is 648/1476/1242MHz (2484MHz data rate) respectively. We can see obvious improvements comparing with 602/1296/1107MHz of GTX280.

Specs of NVIDIA First 40nm GPU GT216 Emerges

AMD’s first 40nm GPU RV740 has been pretty hot, but its rival NVIDIA seems to be quite low-key on this. According to Beyond3d, NVIDIA is preparing its first 40nm product – GT216.

As we know, GT216 will feature 192-bit memory interface and 768MB capacity. It adopts GDDR3, working at 1.2GHz (2.4GHz data rate). Probably there will be a 384MB version of GT216. No words yet on the number of stream processors.

RV740 Quite Likely to Outperform RV770LE

AMD’s first 40nm GPU RV740 was taped out on Dec 18th, but its specs are still under the cover. According to NordicHardware, RV740’s engineering sample has used GDDR5. We thought GDDR5 is only used in the samples to test its memory bandwidth limitations. But surprisingly, it turns out that the final version products will feature GDDR5 to make up for its poor memory interface.

We thought RV740 is just a successor to RV730, but this is not the case.  RV740 is very likely to become the most competitive AMD chip in Q2 2009. Its specifications may convince you of this.
