The World’s First Image of 55nm GT200 Exposed!

According to the image we have on hand, the mark of GT200b on GeForce GTX260 graphic card will change from 65nm “G200-103-A2″ to be “G200-103-B2″. The “B” means latest 55nm processing technology, and its production cycle happened during the 33rd week of this year (August 11th to 17th), only 5 weeks after G200-103-A2 which was manufactured in the 28th week. Therefore, obviously NVIDIA had prepared for a long time.

Remark: The earliest version of GeForce GTX260 utilized GT200 with 192SP, and it was marked as “G200-100-A2″.

The first of new GTX260 graphic cards will hit the market in January next year. The number of its stream processors will maintain as 216, and its memory frequency is unchanged as well. The reference and non-reference versions cards will be on sale at the same time. Thanks to application of new processor and the circuit designed by manufacturers themselves, the price will hopefully keep declining. The GTX260 card is already available at $264 at the lowest right now.

More high-end products based on G200b, including GTX280 and dual-core 260GX2 will also emerge in Jan 2009.

bs! bs! no way this can be true! the 260gx2 will beat ati from the holy throne, so this can’t be true! please say so!

  2. Michael Says:

Crossfire scales far better then SLI, so Nvidia may not take the performance crown just yet ;) especially with ATI’s new revisions coming Q1 next year

  3. Unreal Says:

LMFAO you think crossfire scales better than SLI, ROFL you ATI fanboys crack me up have you ever seen a benchmark?

  4. Michael Says:

    Yes and it always has,
not to mention Nvidia’s crappy drivers when it comes to SLI,
Nvidia fanbois can never actually face the truth, they will always deny it. So there isnt really much point arguing to a brick wall.

  5. Dutch Says:

I want a to buy two GTX280 55nm cards, so will there be a GTX290 or GTX280 55nm based on the GT206 aka GT200b chip in December or do I have to wait until January?

  6. Unreal Says:

Michael you are a dead set idiot, 9800gtx sli scales almost 100% crossfire 4850s are lucky to get a 50% boost and add a 3rd card to crossfire and youll get a performance decrease.

  7. Unreal Says:

and my evga gtx 260 core 216 sli will rape any 4870 crossfire setup

  8. Emm Says:

I hope it will dethrone ATi for now ’cause they’ve taken financial analysts way to serious about them selling to cheap. Prices are kinda high for most sub 48xx parts and the 48xx gets its but kicked in some the-way-it’s-meant-to-be-p(l)ayed optimized games and I don’t need to mention that GTX2xx prices have dropped!

And yes… ATi’s CrossFire scales better without optimizations. Most benchmarks and games that you see reviewed are optimized in the-way-it’s-meant-to-be-p(l)ayed way. Look as Assasin’s Creed… and then think TPB. ;)

  9. Michael Says:

9800GTX scales 100%? lol your the idiot here.
funny that, because the HD4870 in crossfire owns even the GTX280 in SLI,
another misinformed and upset Nvidia fanboi over the HD4800 series… :)

  10. Zorent Says:

Yeah 9800GTX fin sli scales 100% - Thats a good one 6. No card in dual configuration scale 100%. And for dual card coniguration ATI’s card are better.Only GT200 series card are better in sli than ATI. Because GT200 series is more powerful than 4870.

  11. Zorent Says:

Yeah 9800GTX can sli scales 100% - That’s a good one 6. No card in dual configuration scale 100%. And for dual card coniguration ATI’s card are better.Only GT200 series card are better in sli than ATI. Because GT200 series is more powerful than 4870.

  12. Wig Says:

ATI drivers are a joke, had to sell my 4870×2’s because of the utter farst that is Catalyst. I used to think people who said this were Nvidiots, now i realize they’re just ex ATI customers.

If you need proof just check AMD forums. Not a day goes by without a catastrophic failure on ATI’s part which loses them more business as a result.

    Here’s the latest one:

  13. drunkalien6 Says:

Two 4870’s in Crossfire, do NOT beat dual GTX 280’s in SLI. In any benchmark iv seen. Second of all 9800 GTX does not scale almost 100%. Only in a couple games 9800 GTX, and GTX 260. Scale about 90%, which is still good but not in any games that matter. Thirdly im pissed why the hell are they making a GTX 260 GX2. I was expecting it too be a GTX 280 GX2. I waited for this?

  14. Aramid Says:

Seems like Nvidia is playing catchup with Ati now. Now all Nvidia needs is to finally migrate to GDDR5 and start to accept DX10.1 (true DX10.1, not emulated)

  15. NVIDIA Says:

I’m calling BS on this one. NVIDIA has NEVER EVER released a card with a new fabrication and not call it something else. Plus! NVIDIA has got to be dumb to not have already introduced a 55nm version if they had it completed already. It makes absolutely no sense to not ship a cheaper produced card (via GPU). Especially if the OP is saying a matter of 5 weeks difference.

  16. NVIDIA Says:

This is a really obvious move. 4850 beats gtx 260 and 4870 beats gtx 280. Of course, gtx 280 tri-sli beats everything; but if NVIDIA releases gtx 280/260 X2 (haha, with a maximum of six(?)-sli! woot!) for the corresponding price, based on the 55nm manufacturing process - possibly even cheaper than the 4850/70 - then they will, simply put, destroy the competition.
Look at it this way: Nvidia has so far offered passive resistance to ATI’s market share stealing. But what if it’s been preparing all along for a single crushing move that would net it 99% of the gaming population? Anybody about to reconfigure their PC with a new mobo, a new processor and new graphics cards will without a doubt be waking up at this moment and considering.

As for scaling - no graphics card can scale 100%. What scales better? It depends on the drivers used, the game played, the mobo, etc. There are benchmarks - hundreds of them - i recommend guru3d for a good start. The truth is that Nvidia has always had an edge against the competition, but for a time it has been failing in terms of price which is the true reason why people by ATI - not because 4870s are more powerful in any way shape or form then the gtx 280s.

  17. diehardNVfan Says:

    “4850 beats gtx 260 and 4870 beats gtx 280″

    wut? only in disneyland…

and now NVIDIA stfu and get the cards out! PRONTO!

  18. diehardNVfan Says:

    Dual-Core GTX260 GX2 officially named the GeForce GTX295

    ehm, what about: gtx1337?

  19. Coupe Says:

Wig you are an idiot. You said X2’s which probably means you had 2 of them. You are probably just a money spending retard who doesn’t look at his investment or the other parts that go into it. No 3 or 4 GPU setup scales well.

However, since the Core I7 and X58 chip and chipset came out the CPU/chipset bottleneck (OMFG YES CPU/Chipset BOTTLENECK RETARD!) Has been lifted and 3 way SLI and Crossfire X have been scaling quite well.

But you wouldn’t know that because you are just a bitch with money who just wants to buy the most expensive and not realize what’s actually the best.

    mmm Nerd rage!

  20. Coupe Says:

PS whoever Nvidia is, is a mental midget. Maybe you should read guru3d instead of just citing it as a reference. It is obvious by your RETARDED post that you know nothing and its time to go back to the drawing board.

    You phail @ geekness

  21. NVIDIA Says:

hahah thanks Coupe! btw i thought wig’s post was pretty hilarious and dude he wasn’t fucking talking about cpu bottlenecks he was talking about drivers… so if he ditched his ati quad sli for what im assuming to be a tri sli gtx 2×0, and it scaled far better, then you just stuck your nose in big shit dumbass.

  22. mr cool Says:

    LoL so many idiots here.

SLI scales better then Crossfire, especially in games where it’s needed most such as Crysis or Farcry 2. The only games Crossfire scales well is in the games where even a single 4870 is more then enough.

A 4870 is not better then a GTX280 and a 4850 is not better then a GTX260. The GTX280 is above the 4870. The GTX260 and 4870 are relatively the same.

Some games can scale 100%, due to shitty coding, or should I say good coding?

  23. mr cool Says:

    @ Aramid

GDDR5 is not necessary. nVidia has stuck with the 448/512bit memory controller thus not needing to catch up with ATI at all. The GTX280 actually has higher memory bandwidth then the 4870.

DX10.1 is still not utilised and won’t be in many upcoming games.

  24. Unreal Says:

Crossfire scales good in 3dmark thats it, it BLOWS for everything else.

  25. S3 Fan Says:

Haha, you are all idiots !

Octal-GPU S3-Quinto1024 VX9999 Super-Dooper Cards with 1TB of GDDR7-RAM which are fabricated on the ISS in zero-gravity conditions beat the crap out of inVidious, AiEmDee and wInTel.

And they are available at your nearest hardware store in unlimited quantities.

    S3 Rulz ! Peace yo.

  26. whoop ass Says:

seems like nvidia’s really gonna open a can of whoop ass this time

  27. kuolas Says:

I need ATI for my multi monitor setup. I can use CrossFire with it too, nvidia didn’t want it’s customers do that… well only the ones who pay for it (Quadro users, but it doesn’t work so goo either).

I don’t like nvidia getting too cookie when they are in the lead, like NV30 times… remember?

I do love their hardware (well TNT2, GeForce3 and GeForce 6… that’s it) but not when they want to screw their customers (GeForce FX, GeForce 8600M).

  28. Lenk Says:

    Hi
i dont realy know all this stuf your crying…
This days dx10 is crap because a crap of vista…
I read many vista test with bsod when they put 4 gig ram on system.
With 2 or 3 gigs works fine but with 4 or more vista crap…
Some guys crying on non AA on nvidia cards, most ati cards fun says a better picture with 60 fps,is better than a 250 fps with crapy AA.
Dx10.1 uses better AA algorithms but nvidia dont make the pass forward, they will go direct to dx11.
Nvidia pay so much for game makers to dont use advanced dx10.1 codes in games.
Most games dont use more then a dual-core cpu. I tested crysis and i cryed… just one core used…so theoretical much better run on 6ghz one core than a 2,66 q6600 intel quad(other quads are unusable too). The sli and crossfire setups works well on multicore setups (They are cpu power hungry, better scaling systems).
On radeon optimised systems 2x gpu gives near 100% boost but no software i see to use 3 or 4 gpu. Same as SLI. No one game make semnificative advance after adding one gpu on the system. Just benchmarks gives us scaling wiht gpus numbers.
but no one use benchmarks for entertainment.
Advanced gpu codes and physiscs kills sli and gpus too.

Drivers can`t be written good because of Microsoft policy.
So thank you and think before write. Not mentioning that no one can read all things what is written in one day on internet. And so many things what is never written and u cant heard on any places…of world.

    have a good day…

  29. Lenk Says:

oh i forget, whql checking is slow…not their fault but slow…
I think is better if all guys here wait for windows 7 which will give power for your gpu systems and of course Intel Core i7 and PhenomII is recomended.

  30. Hsew Says:

If it’s gonna have the same specs as 2 Original 260s, ATI will still hold the performance crown….
    HD4870 1GB > GTX260 192

  31. Wig Says:

    @Coupe

    Yeah i’m sure my All-liquid-cooled Blackops X48, QX9650 @ 4.2ghz, 4gb 1600mhz DDR3 and dual raid 0 300gb Velociraptors were holding the cards back. Don’t be so f***ing stupid.

    @Kuolas

Salvation is at hand, multi-monitor support in SLI was enabled a few weeks ago according to what i’ve read.

  32. Bomn Says:

This is a ridiculous war …

Actually, both of them suck… Bigtime …

    Bring 3DFX back :’( LOL

I always favored nvidia cause of driver stability, ATI has the speed yet the drivers suck. Used to have ATI too, Left ATI court since the X1600 Fiasco where a G-Force 6800 kicked it’s ass all over the floor really …

Stability or speed !? You choose, I think Stable=Nvidia Speed= ATI if only there was a compromise there …

Waiting on Larabee to see if it stirs something up !

  33. NEUTRAL; read Says:

guys, just calm it. the best place to take a point of view from is outside being a fanboy. i have a 4870×2, and it does far cry 2 full settings 1680×1050 at 65fps. it does CSS at an average of 297. Catalyst control centre is ridicuously shitty though. nvidias control panel is far better. nvidia have right now the performance throne for single chip cards - the gtx280.

and btw FUDZILLA references some gtx 260s being able to beat the 4870. i have 64bit vista with 6gb ram and i have no BSOD issues. the person who said that really should check his voltages maybe, or even if he has a faulty stick. nvidia no doubt will take the performance crown next year, of course. whether or not its a card which they put a lot of work into i dont know.

but im pretty sure that crossfire scales a bit better than sli. my other computer runs two 8800gts’s and it plays crysis at a miserable 18 fps on high (not ultra high) settings, compared to a single card setup of 15fps. it also decreases the minum frame rate while playing CoH from 68.5 to 16fps.

ATI have certainly knocked nvidia off their feet, but it seems like nvidia is pulling this card out only just to beat the 4870×2, it doesnt seem like they put anything special to it. so yeah, we have flaws in both manufacturers, nvidia and ati, and it really shouldnt be something people should fight over about.

Just get the best card out there and be happy. Im certainly happy, no problems here. im sure peopple who own the gtx 280 are happy as well, and i dont blame them, its a fantastic card.

either that or both nvidia and ati are just screwing us around and making us pay money for technology that could be a year ahead if they really put their backs into development.

  34. Aramid Says:

DX10.1 was used in Assassin’s Creed and for, at the time, the 3000 series card, had a 22% increase in performance before they made a “patch” for it, dissabling DX10.1. GDDR5 is worthy of new games! Stop hindering tech progress!
Also seen here: http://www.ngohq.com/graphic-cards/14519-ati-struggle-crysis.html for further cheating by Nvidia. If DX10.1 is not necessary, then why did Nvidia make their cards emulate it? I think those fukcers are making it so much of a small issue that people will think that DX11 will be a revolution! Fukc you Nvidia for making me find so many games are ATI hindered because of you. Race Driver Grid, Crysis, Crysis: Warhead, Jade Empire, Colin McRae DiRT, etc. I am never going back to Nvidicka because of their un-fair ways.

  35. diehardNVfan Says:

the dx10.1 api in assassins creed “missed” a renderpass and IF the devs were not lazy enough to rewrite the shaders to properly support dx10.1 MSAA than we had have a winner: but ATI doesnt care that much about cooperation with devs, not that MUCH as it seems (john carmack can tell you a thing or two about it….)

  36. LotsOfTrollsHere Says:

Wow, can you guys just calm down? I’ve rarely seen so many fanboy comments on either side on a tech site. I’ve owned both ATi and NV cards and they have their advantages and weaknesses. Not every NV card is an NV30 and not every ATI is an HD 2900. The fact is the two companies are pretty close together this time around. There’s tradeoffs and there always will be…NV is faster for folding, and ATi is slightly better with AA etc etc.

  37. Jerome Says:

I guess 280GX2 will be king, 4870X2 will go head to head with 260GX2. However ATI can always price its parts cheaper - lower cost of chips and PCB. It is not possible to put 1024bit memory bus on one PCB right now. Prove me wrong Nvidia.

ATI could fight back with a higher clock 4800X2. There is faster GDDR5 memory available now.

  38. Shahab Says:

To the people arguing about which company rips you off the least with their products, ATI or Nvidia, shut down your internets and get a girlfriend.

  39. rx5600 Says:

    *banned* by expreview.com

  40. NVIDIA Says:

I am so glad I wasn’t included in that comment.

  41. omfg Says:

Oh.. amd/intel and ati/nvidia fanboys are just dumb.. i mean.. come on, this is pathetic.. to sit down and wrote a comment like ‘ati is the best (cos i have ati card ofc) and nvidia sucks ass (cos i dont have nvidia card) or something to that nature is just ridicilus.. here are the facts morons..

    4870×2 > gtx280
    gtx280 > 4870
    gtx260 > 4850
    4850 > or = 9800gtx+

There you go! Deal with it.

And for SLI/Crossfire - depends on the GAMES!! Some games run better with SLI, some run better with crossfire! To say ‘ati/nvidia scales better in sli/cross bla bla bla’ is just garbitch.. STFU with that shit.. at last but not least you need to concetrate whats best for you as far as price/performance goes!! Unless you are a rich motherfucker.. then buy all the shits you need, buy 1000 gtx280 or 4870×2 and see whats best for you.. but if not - go for your price/performance thing and stop being suck a douchebag and fan boy of hardware.. that is just dumb as fuck man..

  42. Sunshine Says:

I have a 9800gtx+ right now….After what 5weeks its just broke and cant do nothing with it anymore even there it burned my Mboard..and now what?…….but what i had before? oh! 4850 what hapened to this one? nvm its alrdy in the garbage cuz its broken too… before working on efficiency of their cards…they should take more time workin on the quality of them….Being a Fanbois of whatever mean absolutly nothing beside someone told you its better !!

  43. Chris Says:

Why would Nvidia release a new card in January and not in December, right before Christmas?

These new 55nm cards have been rumoured since back in October when sites were claiming they were about to be released, then they were delayed to November, then December, now January. They were first meant to be called GTX270/GTX290, now they are apparently staying the same name, which I find very strange.

I’m taking this with a VERY big pinch of salt…

  44. diehardNVfan Says:

rumors and facts. so is the interent.

  45. danimon Says:

all of nvidia fanboy will pay for their brag.
i really apreciate ATI (but not fan w it) coz it can make price competition more competitive at reasonable level.just imagine how you guys pay 400 more bucks for a gtx 260 or 500 more fore 280 before ATI 4800 series come.
everybody know nvidia has the lead now and ATI is someone who come from behind trying to pull that Goliath harder. but nvidia do some dirty tricks to stop it’s rival, and manage to become the solo player on GPU industry.and there are you guys get into nvidia’s trap and someday will regret wondering the one who can stop that goliath from his (pricing) madness. oh god, that’s really the judgement day…
so, now i just wanna tell u become more apreciate in price to performance initiator than the power-crown-hungry bastard, wether it’s ATI, Nvidia or intel(about time..).

  46. w1p30ut3r Says:

Well… everybody are fighting… but I have the truth!
    I bought a hd4870×2…. and run a lot of games… well… everything at MAX… ruunning reallllllyyyy fast… But… crysis… well… with a lot of problem… I turn off one core and everything goes fine but slow…

And I noticied a lot of strange artifacts on varios games… And try drivers and everything, and change the same card for another card saphire 4870×2 for a powercolor 4870×2… and the issues continues… Everything on my computer is hi-end and really good for that GPU… 750 real corsair powersupply… q6600… etc… In vantage I get 14320 on performance… than… I change back for a Geforce gtx280 and alll the games still on MAX and crysis runs… BETTER!!! And I get on vantage 11800 points… sad, I overclock a litle… 600 for 670, 1290 for 1404, 1100 for 1245… and gets 14448… So……. the same computer… 3 different GPUs, I must say… The GTX280 wass BETTER than the 4870×2 with a LITLE overclock… THATS IS TRUE!!! I SAW IT WITH MY EYES! MY COMPUTER AND MY CASH!!!

And… lol… I run the ati demos on my gtx280… after instaled on a 4870×2… thats IS FUNY! :D

    Sorry the english!
    Peace!
