GeForce GTX295 With 480SP Surely to Come in CES 09
I need to update the information about Dual-GPU GTX260 GX2 Officially Branded as GeForce GTX295. With the release date approaching, more details are visible now.

Firstly, GeForce GTX295 VGA card will feature two GPUs of 55nm GT200. And the number of stream processors is 480 (240×2), not 216×2 as we reported. Besides, its memory bus width is 896 bit (448bitx2), and memory size is 1792MB DDR3 (896MBx2). It won’t adopt GDDR5, and its total power is 289W. GTX 295 will be launched on Jan 8th, exactly on the day when CES2009 starts.
The frequency and pricing of GeForce GTX295 are unknown yet. Judging from the above specifications, it isn’t dual-GPU GTX260 or dual-GPU GTX280. Anyway, it’s obvious that GeForce GTX295 is about to regain its performance dominance.
Please feel free to write down how you think about this.

It’s time to fight back.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
Well I thnk its too late for nvidia to fight back, as ATI 4870X2 has already enjoyed its part of luxury in the market….but ATI will loose the crown for this one I thnk.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Just wait: A couple of weeks after this, ATI will bring out the next big thing: the R870 chip made for dualcoring…
Nvidia needs to bring more to the table than just a lame X2
December 9th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
I don’t think ATI will bring the rv870 so soon and i really hope the don’t. I don’t my 4870X2 to get obsolete so fast as is the case with GTX 260 and 280. Yes they will lose the performance crown but it’s ok actually. rv770 has done the damage that it was meant to do.
GTX 295 will be a great card. There is no denying that. I am just curious of how are they going to price it, being Nvidia and all. I hope they will show some regret and give it a launch price of no more that 450 euros.

lol Nv want to win HD4870×2 with this gtx295 ha ha ha ha

GTX whether it will be great or not… it lost the profits!
These cards are only good starting from their launch up till 1st or 2nd price cuts are announced. After that it’s just market penetration… but since most ppl buy what they think is the “king”, without thinking that that G8x/G9x IS NOT D10U-x0, it’s not a real benefit to hang on to them. Spending time and money on R800 would be better than fighting nVidia at this point!

Wow,PSOLORD is back here
December 9th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Hi! Emm, good point…….. & where is ATI Radeon R800, come soon…….
December 9th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
lolol how can you still take sides in this “war” after the antitrust scandal and all the fu**ing they did to you
December 9th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
what about the price of a almost 1000mm² os silicon (2 GPU + BR2 chip + IO chip) when worldwide market is getting inside that great crisis!!!!!!!!

No, no! The US DoJ thought something and it was unfounded.
nVidia and Intel f**ked AMD, or so it seemed at that time, do you remember the clerk that was leaking AMD sensitive data and roadmaps ahead of time and said “Why can’t we fire more ATi ppl?”, guess he got his pension in advance… but now seeing how well AMD did with ATi it’s good that they’ve merged. So why did they f**ked us?
There was no scamming… AnandTech slapped AMD for the mistake called Phenom and after that AMD got more serious… they started 2008 without bragging about the upcoming “innovation”… then we found ourselves with low TDP CPUs, cheap 780G and followed by ATi’s 4000 series and massive price cuts for 3000 series.
Reminds me of the old days of the K7 when a Thunderbird was cheaper than a PIII and performed a bit faster. Good and cheap!
Wonder how this VGA card will do when launched. 450eu is a bit steep… 400?

Im happy to see a decent X2 card created by nvidia, lets hope it runs something better than the standard cooler found on the GTX200 platform.. im dissapointed that the GTX280 i bought a few months ago is now going to loose its title tho :/ ahh well
December 10th, 2008 at 10:37 am
I just can’t bring myself to trust ATI drivers, so I’ve passed on the 4870 x2… So if nV can do a decent job with their drivers, this might be a good part.
December 10th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
It seems that Nvidia is still going the big monolithic core vs multi cores. If they put 480 sp’s into a 55nm gpu woould the heat trade off be too much for a core/ram speed bump? I have a gtx 280 and chose nvidia over ati because yeah nvidia have good drivers, also GT200 core was made for CUDA so the fact that it is a fully programmable c langauge is awseome.

My Bad, this is a dual gpu solution, wait for next gen this is a quick fix to take on R700
December 10th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
I believe you haven’t seen the graph that was on here some months ago, then..
It showed the price difference between ati and nvidia over time..

The card looks good, but at this time it’s
going to cost a lot too. I figure a price tag
around $699 US dollars. I just upgraded to
to a ATI 4870 card.
Also, I’ve been reading a lot about Nvidias
chip issues lately. I’m put off by them
not coming forward and admitting they messed
up on some GPU designs … So, I’m going to
wait and see on this design. Right now, I
can’t see myself spending that type of money
on a video card.
December 12th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
I whant put a question. Why I buy this new video card? if is not a directx 11 video card. When Microsoft finish with directx 11 all this card means nothing. We nead to buy the next generation card with directx 11 suport.
December 12th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
and is an ecomical crysis I am sure today or tomorow this affect Nvidia company.I whant they sell with cheap price
December 13th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
lol yeah at least $600 and probably more like $750… but there will be people that buy it even if they price it at $1200
at the rate technology moves today it’s too rich for my blood too

Did anyone notice the power consumption? 289W just for the GPU? That is going to be one huge, noisey heatsink/fan card. Gee if you want to run two cards in SLI you can use it as a room heater.
December 22nd, 2008 at 11:01 am
connectr you are a total moron 289W is a really good TDP, much less than the 4870X2, and not all that much more that the GTX 280.
January 8th, 2009 at 9:59 am
the price is gonna be under 500
one huge noisy heatsink fan card? no it’s just cause it’s so powerful not cause it has loud fans.. powerful fans can be quiet too you know.. heatsinks don’t make sound either
January 31st, 2009 at 1:51 pm
A card is a card, all this ATI is better/Nvidia is better os rubbish, ATI where lost in the woods for so long, its good that there is competition again, because, ATI doest win, Nvidia Doesnt win, we the consumer wins as each manufacturer attempts to deliver the best card at the best price
February 9th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
The longer you wait the better card you get, or the better price for the card you want now.. Also I always stay a step or 2 back, let a couple of revisions take place..
But here lately things move so fast, they don’t care a lot about revisions…
They better wise up, cause we the people will stop buying…
Hey since crysis came out there has not been a card to max it out, The gtx295 QUAD SLI, has finally done it..
As we speak EVGA has sold out, I’m waiting to get the revised version now, Price is $504.00 + $20.00 for the optional back plate, I’m hoping the price will go down & the Overclocked versions to come out….
I used to love ATI in the 90’s, But nvidia works so much better, & by the way, every AMD CPU I have owned was a piece of shit, Burned out @ stock speeds..
