3.1GHz Phenom II X4 950 to Hit The Market in Q2
AMD officially announced its 45nm processor Phenom II Series on January 8th, and there were only two models of CPU at that time, that is Phenom II X4 920 of 2.8 GHz and Phenom II X4 940 of 3.0GHz.
Expected to be released in Q2 this year, Phenom II X4 950 only offers 100MHz higher clock (improved from 3.0GHz to 3.1GHz). The other specs of Phenom II X4 950 are the same as that of Phenom II X4 920/940: 8MB total cache, 125W TDP and Socket AM2+. For now, the M.S.R.P (Manufacturer’s suggested retail price) of Phenom II X4 940 is $275. Considering changes of market condition, Phenom II X4 950 should be priced lower when it actually reaches store.
Compared with Phenom II X4 950, Phenom II X4 910 and Phenom II X4 925 with Socket AM3 have aroused more attention, because they have only 95W TDP. This is one of the benefits that new processing technology should bring us. Phenom II X4 910/925 will be launched within this quarter, and hopefully more exact information will emerge just after Chinese New Year.

Nice marketing, 3,0GHz 3,1GHz. Q3 they should bring out 3,15GHz and Q4 finally 3,2GHz, not to mention those cacheless models. Stores buy all those in, that makes money, who cares how many of us really buy one. Aswell with TDP, because Phenom II 920 could be 95W right now. Can’t understand why AMD is afraid to push the top-end, perhaps he is working on something better and doesn’t want to push Intel too far.

It will be interesting to compare the 945 with the 950. 950 may have a 100MHz core speed advantage but the 945 should have 200MHz (1.8 vs 2.0GHz) uncore speed. Faster execution or faster I/O and L3?
Will either of these be the next Black Edition? Or will that title Go to the AM3 X4 955/965?

did you see the power usage of Q9400?, it is rated 95W by intel but in reality its a 125W CPU

Phenom II X4 950 offer more upgrade choice to who wasn’t OC
if u have 3.1GHz why u need to OC it anyway .
BTW: many people don’t know that all AMD 45nm Processor can fit on old AM2+ MOBO
just all thy need is updating the mobo bios .
and enjoy with Phenom II and the upcoming Athlon X3 on 45nm
