I laughed so hard when I read this I still have tears. The only difference from Microsoft’s pricing from before is the fact we are in recession. This must be their dumbest move after the layoffs. Despite W7 being an awesome product, the economy everywhere will force the adoption rate lower than Vista, if not dramatically lower. Say hello to zero profit and chapter 11 soon Microsoft!

Economies of scale.
The way i see it is like this: once win7 goes gold, most of the investment is paid out already. Yes, there is still support, call centers, updates, service packs, yadayadayada… My point is that once they have a product that they can mass-produce for aprox $2 a pop, why not take a slight per-unit hit and entice those XP holdouts to upgrade?

Ahhh! just because of the recession!? this is crazy – vista starter $50, seven starter $199!? 4 times! it’s really not reasonable! double is okay but 4 times! ouch to the consumer’s pocket!!! what if not many buys this by the end of 2009? Microsoft you are so stupid! DX11 is great but it’s not worth the price.
