Corsair CEO: Most Dual-Channel Memory Kits to Be 8GB

Andy Paul
The demands of high-performance PC enthusiasts and hardcore gamers keep growing despite the economic recession. Andy Paul, the CEO and president of Corsair Memory, said that by the end of the year the majority of dual-channel kits will be 8GB.
“By the end of the year, I think many or most dual channel builds will transition to 8GB. Memory cost will continue to trend downwards, Windows 7 will be out there and applications programmers will produce applications and games that are designed to take advantage of 64-bit memory addressing. Even now many of our customers are populating machines with 12GB.”
For now, even Corsair Memory itself doesn’t offer 8GB dual-channel memory kits. The company concentrates more on 6GB triple-channel memory module kits aimed at Intel Core i7-based systems. However, AMD has released Phenom II processors with DDR3 memory support and Intel is preparing other Nehalem based chips with dual-channel memory controller, dual-channel DDR3 module kits will hopefully have lots of prospects.
The DDR3 memory has hit market for two years, but hasn’t reached the crossover with DDR2 yet. However, Andy believes that the transition is going to be quicker and the latest CPUs will help DDR3 enter the mainstream market.
