Windows 7 XP Mode: Any Benefits at All?
Windows 7 XP Mode: Any benefit at all?
Actually, virtual system is nothing new, and you might have very little chance to use it. But Microsoft has smartly used Windows XP Mode as a good weapon to promote the Windows 7 compatability.
Compared with other third-party virtual software, simple XP Mode doesn’t stand any chance. You can make use of the software such as VMware or VirtualBox to build a virtual system on your own.
We built a virtual XP system by using VMware 6.5. (click to enlarge)
Building the virtual system by the third-party virtual software requires nothing on your hardware, and the Pentium Dual-core E5200 is already enough. You can also simulate the graphics card with 3D performance if you like.

Windows 7 XP Mode does work, but given all the restrictions on the PC configuration and troubles of setup, we don’t think it’s worthy to run the XP Mode really, unless you absolutely need it.

*scratches head*
Why would anyone want to pay for Windows 7 Pro (or Enterprise, or even Ultimate) for XP Mode if we can do the same job using:
(1) Linux or OpenSolaris ($0);
(2) VirtualBox (Which doesn’t need Intel VT/AMD-V as a requirement, as well as $0);
(3) XP Pro license that we paid for and activated many moons ago?
There may be other reasons for upgrading to Windows 7, but the XP mode isn’t one of them.
