We’ve already learned that seven Japanese chipmakers including Hitachi, Toshiba and Fujitsu are planning to develop a new CPU to challenge Intel’s domination, but the motherboard manufacturers are rather pessimistic about the future and opportunities.
Digitimes reports that Taiwanese motherboard makers hold uncertainties in terms of the total costs of R&D manpower and funding. The claim makes little sense as the aforementioned companies are doing quite well financially, and they’re backed by Japanese goverment. The project will have an initial capital of US$32-43 million.

The first images of ATI Radeon HD 5870 codenamed Cypress graphics cards have recently been posted at the Dutch site Tweakers. Cooled by a black turbo cooler, the card looks very plain, and unusually long, which means it might not fit into mainstream desktop systems.
