Radeon HD 5970: The Undisputed Performance Champ
Power Consumption Results: Better than expected
Clocks & GPU Voltage

According to the company, Radeon HD 5970 has a idle/maximum board power of 51/294W. GPU voltage and power consumption are closely related.
The Radeon BIOS Editor indicated that GPU voltage was 1.05V when clocks were 725/1000MHz under load, while dropping to 0.95V when clocks decreased to 157/300MHz when idle.
Power consumption
We loaded the system with 3DMark Vantage, and please note the results refer to power consumption of the whole system instead of the single graphics card.

As you can see, Radeon HD 5970 consumed 21W less power than GeForce GTX295 when idle, and 29W less power than GTX295 under load. However, Radeon HD 5870 CF ate up to 440W power.
According to our test, the power control ability of Radeon HD 5970 turned out to be much better than GeForce GTX295.
