Thermalright Venomous X: A Premium Choice for LGA1366 Platform

Final Thoughts

Venomous X seems to be an updated version of U120E – a larger heatsink coverage area, a wider fin gap distance, better heatpipe arrangement, more advanced mounting system, and mirror-polished copper base. All of this does bring a small rise in cooling performance, but nothing much else. The development of air cooler might have reached a limit, at least for now.

As to the fact that Venomous X lags behind Megahalems on LGA775 platform, we have to say the former one is specially optimized for LGA1366 platform just as U120E Rev.C.

The brand-new installation system enables the CPU contact better with the cooler base, although making the installation more complicated.

No mounting kit for AMD processors is included in the package, so it will generate additional cost for AMD users.

Given all that, Venomous X is a decent replacement of U120E, but can be hardly be called a revolutionary or exciting product. We’ve heard that Prolimatech plans to launch a new flagship heatsink pretty soon, so let’s look forward to the new round of battle.
