Intel’s Affordable 40GB X25-V SSDs Reach Stores

We’ve just noticed that Intel’s 40GB X25-V solid state drive had made its way into stores in the US and Europe. The MLC NAND memory based drive has a SATA 3.0Gbps interface, and delivers read/write speeds of up to 170MB/35MB per second.

Backed by a three-year warranty, the 2.5-inch drive is now listed at Newegg for $130. A good price, isn’t it?

It’s basically exactly the same as the Kingston SSDNow-V 40GB only the Kingston comes with loads of software to clone your existing installed OS and with other features which this package doesn’t have. Besides, the Kingston version only costs like 80 euro’s. Only because it says Intel on the box, it just doesn’t justify the 130$

170 MB/s Read and 30 MB/s write? So not much speed advantage here (vs $130 HDD)?
