Radeon HD 5830 Coming with HD 4890 Performance, But Cheaper

Radeon HD 5850

According to a recent post at NordicHardware, AMD is not only launching the first budget card of Radeon HD 5600 series in several days, and also unveiling a new addition to the Radeon HD 5800 series – Radeon HD 5830.

The report suggests that the Radeon HD 5830 will use GDDR5 memory and deliver equal performance to HD 4890, but costing less. We haven’t seen any sign of HD 5830 in the roadmap, but it comes as no surprise that AMD decides to offer a more cost-effective card to compete better.

Radeon HD 5830 is said to appear on January 25th with a price tag of no more than $200. Stay tuned for more details in the days to come.

Good. There’a a huge performance gap between the 5770, which actually has slightly *less* performance than the 4870, and the 5850. It’ll be nice to see something in that performance area. I suspect that’s the sweet spot most of us are looking for.
