AMD Ranks Second Among Top 25 Fabless IC Suppliers
AMD has turned into the world’s second biggest fabless semiconductor company according to IC Insights, and Qualcomm, who has just collaborated with GlobalFoundries, managed to retain its championship.
After AMD, the top-10 list includes Broadcom, MediaTek, NVIDIA, Marvell, Xilinx, LSI, Altera and Avago. Of those 10 companies, nine fabless IC companies had sales of $1.0 billion or more.
The list of fabless semiconductor companies has been coming more crowded as time goes by. The sales of fabless IC company accounted for just over 7% of the total IC market, but in 2009 the percentage grew to 23%. IC Insights predicts that fabless IC companies will command at least 27% of the total IC market.
