AMD to Refresh Graphics Lineup in the Second Half of 2010

Unsatisfied with its current leadership in graphics market, AMD plans to introduce its next-generation graphics cards in the second half of 2010.
“We are ramping the ATI Radeon HD 5000 series now and look forward to refreshing the entire lineup in the second half of next year,” said Dirk Meyer, chief executive officer of AMD, with full confidence, encouraged by the positive financial report of the fourth quarter. (He referred to the second half of fiscal 2010 as to the “next year”, which is actually the second half of calendar 2010.)
AMD’s worldwide developer relations manager ever said that ATI hopes to maintain leadership position “for the majority of 2010″. Yes, the upcoming Fermi may threaten the AMD’s preeminence, but with the expensive price of Fermi in mind, AMD products are expected to be a preferable choice for mainstream consumers.

It will be a refresh of the 5xxx series.
Theres no way AMD had the resources to be this far into the development of the 6 series. and if they were, then its definitely just a small hop from the 5 series.
that said the 5 series isn’t next gen anyway, regardless of whether it has a dx11 certified tesselator. its based on a 5 year old architecture and isn’t anything wonderous. ATI’s gpu development is as conservative as AMD’s cpu development these days. Neither of which is a good thing.

Unsatisfied with its current leadership in graphics market, AMD plans to introduce its next-generation graphics cards in the second half of 2010.
So, essentially, AMD tells potential customers to wait until after July to buy new cards. Maybe they should have consulted with the marketing department on that one?
Jeepers. No wonder these guys are hemorrhaging money.

Well, people who care enough to put off their purchase already know/expected this. So really they are telling us something we don’t already know. People who don’t care don’t read tech news.
