AMD Grabs More CPU Market Share in Q4

According to IDC’s latest PC processor study, the worldwide PC microprocessor shipments in the fourth quarter of 2009 rose modestly, with mobile PC processors increasing by 11.7%, x86 server processor growing by 14.1% and desktop processors by 4.8%.
 
When compared to Q4 ’08, CPU shipments in 4Q09 rose 31.3%, and the overall market average selling price of processors rose 6.7% quarter over quarter.

In the quarter Intel held a 80.5% unit market share, down 0.6%, while AMD gained 0.7% and reached 19.4%. VIA also posted a small gain with 0.3%.

IDC predicts that the CPU shipment for 2010 will continue to see a growth of 15.1% compared to 2009.
