Updated: NVIDIA 196.21 WHQL Driver Disables Users to Overclock

 

Update:

NVIDIA has told TomsHardware that the driver’s behavior with overclocking tools is indeed a software bug and they’re working on an updated driver package to fix it.

The folks at EVGA also act quickly by updating their utility to version 1.9.1, and you may click here to download.

Yesterday NVIDIA updated its GeForce/ION driver to 196.21 WHQL version which includes SLI and multi-GPU support for many new gaming titles as well as some bug fixes, but several users have found that after upgrade they’re unable to overclock any more.

NVIDIA Refutes AMD’s Accusation of PhysX Failure

 

AMD execs ever predicted that the “closed and proprietary standards” such as NVIDIA’s PhysX technology would die. And earlier this month, AMD accused NVIDIA again of disabling multi-core CPU support in PhysX API.

GlobalFoundries is currently owned jointly by ATIC and AMD, but the situation is very likely to change soon, according to Reuters. ATIC is obviously discontent with its 65.8% stake of the foundry, and has recently filed an application with Germany’s cartel office to take over GlobalFoundries completely.

Report: Radeon HD 5830 Pushed Back to February 5th

 

Rumors had it last week that AMD was planning to unveil the Radeon HD 5830 on January 25th, but according to a recent post at Fudzilla, the card has been postponed a bit till February 5th.

The company will price the upcoming card at $239, which is a little more expensive than we believed. That doesn’t sound quite pleasing, but you might feel better when you learn it will be significantly faster than the HD 5770.
