PQI Chairperson Expects DRAM Prices to Rise Again

The prices of DDR2 chips are expected to rise again in the second quarter mainly due to the reduced production at makers, according to Jance Lu, chairperson of memory-module house Power Quotient International (PQI). At the same time, the prices for DDR3 chips will remain stable until the third quarter when demand improves.

Lu sees strong demand for DDR2 chips although DDR3 is set to become the mainstream sometime soon, reports Digitimes.

The average price of DDR3 chips should be reach more than US$3 in Q3, but the chipmakers’ aggressive ramp-ups of DDR3 memory may put them under risk of excessive supply and price erosion in the fourth quarter.

How much more do these guys think they can get for 4GB of RAM? Seems pretty bizarre when you can get a quad-core processor for less than a typical 4GB DDR3 RAM kit.
